Affirm is okay, as a person who is on a budget. I used affirm to buy a 4090, did I pay the interest? Yes, was it worth it? Yes. I spread the payments over a year and a half and paid it off.

It's fine, I had other bills and hobbies to pay for which worked out. Would I do it again? Yes. Just not do it on multiple purchases. Only do it 1 time till you pay it off, then start the next affirm purchase.
I don't know why people are marking your comment as unhelpful. Not everyone has the luxury of buying the things that make them happy in one payment.

Is the interest high and are you paying more in the end? Of course. If you don't like that and aren't ok with that, it's simple. Don't do it. If using something like Affirm to purchase things you normally wouldn't be able to purchase is your best bet, you're ok with it, and you've genuinely thought it through; go for it! There's nothing wrong with that.

It's good to see there are positive stories with people using these services. Just because you wouldn't use the service doesn't mean it's unhelpful and a bad deal for everyone else. It's not your money, if it's what they want and genuinely makes them happy, that's great.

Why these posts sound like they coming from Affirm employees?

30% interest is close to predatory lending practices. There are credit cards with close to, or similar interest rates... I label them also predatory.

So I wouldn't thumbs up any sort of that behavior.

A poor man's 3070 but for DLSS Quality the RTX 3070 outpaces the RX 6700 XT by nearly 200% — the lead is 172% at 1080p and 205% at 1440p. In other words, with RT and DLSS enabled, the RTX 3070 is three times as fast as the RX 6700 XT at 1440p. There's also a growing number of games that don't use ray tracing but still support DLSS, because in the Quality mode it's basically a free performance boost on RTX cards.
If that's your goal, sure thing. But neither this card nor the 3070 are going to be decent RT cards.
And while DLSS is better, there is still FSR.
And at the cost of a 3070, you can just about buy a 7800 xt.

Your comparison seems difficult to match, even for people who prefer NVIDIA

You could just as easily learn some delayed gratification, save up the amount that you'd pay each month, and buy when you have saved the full amount. Paying interest, especially at usurious rates, is never a slick deal.

I use affirm all the time. And no, I don't work for them. Just pay it off before interest starts. And if you can't, it's the best way to be able to afford things on a payment plan. Crazy people get all panty bundled over interest charges. It's a loan durr of course you get interest like anywhere else

I just got the same thing.

For comparable performance on the AMD side, I think the 6800 XT and 7800 XT are still available, and better values.

I just went with Nvidia because the 40 series is more energy efficient, which reduces the cost over the long run if electricity is expensive where you live. I also want to try out the card for machine learning / AI, and AMD is pretty far behind on that.

BTW the Gigabyte card is better than the MSI and Zotac options around the same price.
any electricity difference won't be noticeable

30% interest is pretty standard for any credit card carrying a balance.
It sounds high...but the solution IS pretty simple.

Depends on your usage. You can calculate the KWh and multiply by your energy prices. I do agree that for most people, if your GPU is not under load for more than a few hours a day, then the cost is small.

Probably the lower heat generation is more important to most people, especially in summer if you don't have A/C, or if you want less fan noise.

For anyone new to affirm or just anyone with a terrible credit score: Affirm bases its plan and pricing model based off a softpull on your credit profile. I have used Affirm lots of time in the past on 0% apr for a whole year on purchases. Those type of offers are completely contingent on your credit profile.

However, for this deal, you can simply initiate the purchase and pick a plan, wether it has up to 30% of interest on it, doesnt matter.

After the purchase it will let you in your affirm account (theres an app) and you just immediately pay the whole amount off. Problem solved.
