It's not 1TB SSD, but this is the same price as that popular Micro Center 14" MacBook Pro from a few days ago, with a bigger display. Am I missing any other major differences?

You're not missing anything else. They are identical spec wise except for the screen size and SSD size.

The 16 inch has the advantage of larger screen, better speakers and larger batter capacity.

The 14 inch has the larger SSD and smaller, lighter form factor.

I'm probably going to get the 14" version myself. With the 1TB drive and the upgraded (from base 14 inch) CPU this is a real bargain.

I too am leaning more towards the 14 inch, 16 GB, 1 TB version. A bit cheaper than the 16 inch version. Yesterday a quick visit to BestBuy helped me to decide the 14 inch version over the 16 inch version. The former is lighter and more portable in my opinion and for my needs.

They don't have the 14" model at my Micro Center but they have a few of these. May go check them out after work tomorrow. $1350 for a MacBook Pro with a 16.2" Liquid XDR display just seems like a really great price, especially given how little real world performance difference there seems to be between the M1 Pro and M3 Pro (someone posted a comparison chart in the 14" thread).

Make sure you actually physically compare the 16" and 14" before buying the 16" on a whim. It's a beautiful laptop but big and heavy compared to the 14". I had a 16" reserved for pickup and went and checked out the display model before I bought it. Ended up getting an open-box 14" M1 Pro for $1025. Love it. The M1 Pro chip is still just as good as both the M2 and M3.

I'm on this exact same machine right now and 512GB is really anemic for any professional workflow. I believe this is intentional because they want to sell iCloud subscriptions despite already making a ton of money off of you already. The MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) base model came with a 500GB hard drive almost 12 years ago. Carrying around an external SSD is a huge hassle along with cables and/or dongles along with the potential of losing them. Plus how long is Apple going to arbitrarily support MacOS updates for this machine for? It's not like a Windows machine that gets OS updates forever.

Check the specs.

Generally speaking, the low-end 'standard config' 14" MBP (Late 2021) includes 8 cores (6 performance, 2 efficiency) whereas the low-end 'standard config' 16" MBP (Late 2021) includes 10 cores (8 performance, 2 efficiency), so the base 16" is (roughly speaking) around 30% faster (if you're doing something to engage all cores), else it's the same speed (since each core, of the performance cores, is the same speed).

I bought the M3 Pro. $1799 at BB a little while ago; couldn't say no. That has 5 performance cores and 6 efficiency cores (in 14" version), for even more comparison fun. Smilie

I just got a CPO open box 16" M1 Pro, 16/512 at the chicago store for $1015 + tax

Battery had only 7 charge cycles. I got so lucky, the only open box in the case.

got the same deal, 1025 each for my two 14 inch laptops. really enjoy it. only downfall is I paid 80 for parallels 19 so I could play some basic steam games.

but really, this is a great deal still. as ,much as id want 1tb, I cant justify hundreds for extra space I dont really need.
