I'm correct. When you order a 55 or 65. You are doing a panel lottery.

That being said, we are later in 2023, so hopefully more and more 2nd gen panels are more available

Watch the video from FOMO on YouTube for best tv of 2023. He recommends the s90c, but ONLY the 77 inch, because you are guaranteed the qd oled.
All 55 and 65 are QD OLED. However some 2023 models have 1st gen qd OLED panels

I think you are right. I apologize for the fake news

Regarding the s89c, who knows if you'll get a gen 1 or gen 2 panel?

Yeah this TV is weird. One possibility why it's so poorly advertised is maybe it is a (previously unreleased) stock of Gen 1 panels. We have never seen Gen 1 panels in 77 in due to yield issues. But maybe they were being made and stock piled even at low yield.

Otherwise why would this TV exist? Ugh this hurts my brain.

So it's either gen 1 panels that were stockpiled from the low yield days till they had enough to make a model for them (would explain the model number being 89C, one below 90C) The higher power rating could be because gen 1 was a little less efficient. Also could explain the pricing being official on sale lower than S90C. And that there's only a 77" version. (actually this makes the most sense by far)

Or it's Gen 2 panels that were testing slightly better than the S90C panels and thus could be driven a little harder (explaining power but not model number). But why not call those 91C or something? And charge more for it?

Or this is the reality were there's no flipping reason for this and Samsung is drunk.

Out of pure speculation it makes more sense these are Gen1 panels for the way Samsung approached price and model number. O and that it's only sold at Best buy (meaning low stock numbers).

Feel like I want a protection plan with these since the panel tech is newer. How's Best Buy's stack up against the one Costco includes on the s90? Prices end up almost the same with 5 year plans

No one is going to comment that a 77 oled (qd or not) for less than 2k is a really good deal as other oled are a lot more expensive

It's on sale right now for $120, so yeah, it's not worth much.

Stop listening to the misinformation... the S89CB is a QD-OLED in the US and Canada. Same panel as the S90. Confirmed by countless people on Reddit (look at feedback from people that actually got them - - NOT people that are reposting that site with the European information). Confirmed on Rtings, BB website, Samsung website, the list goes on.

I talked to Samsung Tech Support last week - who confirmed the S89CB uses 2nd Gen QD-OLED panel. (Attached proof to this post.)

This is QD-OLED in NA, contrary to naysayers, and is basically identical to the S90C. Got one myself last week. Wondering if I contact Best Buy if they'll give me the soundbar retroactively as well.
Any luck with the sound bar. Got mine last week too smh.

Saw this on rtings discussion board about S89C

It depends on where you live, and I should preface this by saying that we're not 100% sure what the exact differences are, as Samsung is incredibly vague on this. So, first of all, across all units of the S89C wherever you live, it doesn't support Filmmaker mode, so if you care about an accurate image you'll have to adjust some settings yourself. The biggest potential difference, though, is the exact panel used, and here's where things get confusing. It's been widely advertised that the S89C uses a WOLED panel from LG, similar to the LG C3 OLED, but it seems like that's only true in Europe. In North America, the S89C uses a QD-OLED panel, so it offers nearly identical picture quality to the S90C.

Makes sense, since there was no gen 1 panel at 77"

Never heard of this model and rtings doesn't have any info. Hmm...
Found this info on rtings under Samsung S90C OLED TV Review:

There's also a similar model to this known as the Samsung S89C. There's a lot of confusing information about this model, as it seems to use different panels in different regions. In North America, it's known as the S89CB, and according to user reports, it uses a QD-OLED panel similar to the S90C. In this case, the main difference between that model and the S90C is that the S89CB doesn't support Filmmaker mode. In Europe, it's advertised as the S89C, without the 'B' at the end, and it appears to use a WOLED panel from LG Display, similar to the LG C3 OLED or the Sony A80L/A80CL OLED. It has worse color volume and a slightly narrower color gamut, and like the North American model, it doesn't support Filmmaker mode; otherwise, it performs about the same as the S90C.

I purchased this TV on Black Friday at Best Buy and it definitely has Filmmaker mode. It's the mode after Movie in the settings menu. It's also definitely a QD-OLED. I took a macro picture of the panel and it only has RGB sub pixels.
