S90C with it's far superior QD panel can be had for $2091 on samsung.com with EPP (educators, AAA, work, etc) discount stacked with a certain cashback app. A month or so ago that was $1800, so not the best price right now. Still enough to not want this TV though.

EDIT EDIT EDIT This appears to be gen 2 QD as now a screenshot of the service has been posted. Below is old info.

EDIT EDIT: This TV is a mystery. We only know for sure the original press release said WOLED by LG, then when it hit shelves, "Quantum" was quietly added to the item description. No independent testing has been done yet, but Rtings got one delivered Dec 7. No official word from Samsung on what panel it is (chat reps don't count).

My theory (speculation) is these are previously never released 77" Gen 1 panels. Why?

1) Uses a bit more power per specs than an S90C (Gen 1 was less efficient than Gen 2)
2) Only comes in 77" size (the only size never released during Gen 1 fabrication)
3) Probably low production numbers since it's only sold at Best Buy (Gen 1 had low yield issues which Samsung cited as the reason for no 77" QD TVs at first.)
4) They named it S89C implying it's somehow inferior to the S90C in the same way the S90C is to the S95C.
5) It doesn't makes sense to basically sell a S90C under a new name if it's wasn't somehow different to justify the different model number.

Before i get another comment about "Samsung never made a 77" gen 1" no, they never *released* a 77" gen 1. There's a very important distinction there.

🤦

Again, one more time this is QD-OLED! Not WOLED!

I own this TV, the guy quoting months old articles that are talking about the EU version does not. Again, in EU it was WOLED, in NA it is QD-OLED.

Here is the Canadian spec sheet, which shows it is QD-OLED. https://www.samsung.com/ca/tvs/ol...s89cbfxzc/

Wow, so maybe gen 2? 600+ is suppose to be gen 1 and 512 is suppose to be Gen 2 from my understanding? So 588?

Somewhere in between? Maybe these are underperforming gen 2 panels? Thats extremely likely given this finding.

No wait 512 is 65" It should be 588. Gen 2 confirmed. Buy away lads. Samsung was just drunk.

To the ones who took pics of your tv pixels with your phone, how was that achieved? I have a iphone 13 pro and looking to do this as well. I googled but got mostly google pixel phone results 😆
Have you tried yet? Pretty straightforward, get up close (very) and your phone should switch to macro mode automatically. Pausing whatever you're watching will help.

I returned the S90C 65" I had purchased from Samsung since it was Gen 1 panel and I wanted to go bigger. Picked this up yesterday and wow it's awesome. I don't have a phone that takes macro photos, but I verified the Ana Peak of 588. It also has filmmaker mode.

Thanks so much for the heads-up! We've been looking for a good price on a 75"+ OLED tv to go with a new 4K Blue-Ray player. In for one.

I can confirm that this TV does indeed have FilmMaker mode as well as QD OLED. I compared the sub pixels with my previous 65 inch LG C3. Super stoked about the purchase. Only complaint is the stand is a little flimsy for such a large TV.
Do you kind posting a macro picture of the 65in sub-pixels if you still have it?

BTW for everyone that bought this TV, apparently this virtual remote can get you into the service menu.
https://play.google.com/store/app...ote.smg.tv

"Press Mute, 1, 1, 9, then the OK button (center of directional pad). This will bring up the Hospitality Menu after a brief moment (don't play around here you could reset your settings) then press 1, 2, 3, 4 then wait for the Service Menu menu to pop up. You now can use your normal remote again"
Any idea how to get into advanced settings, I can get the service menu, but can't get into advanced. I tried volume up for five seconds with no luck.

I followed the instructions a few pages back by using the Samsung remote app

You can check with Sony and see if you can make a warranty claim through them instead of going full refund route with Walmart. Not sure if Sony pays for the shipping.

Not saying that you should go that route though, if it was me I would probably go with the full refund. Just mentioning it in case you really wanted the X90K. The Walmart price was a good deal and that TV looks good for that price but I just couldn't justify paying close to $1k for an LED TV without mini LED. Specially with the TCL for $700 that had mini LED but worst image processor though.

If you have the extra money might as well go for this S89C.

Best Buy usually ends promos on Sundays. If you are on the verge might as well order it now and later cancel the order if you change your mind.
I did as you suggested. Have it scheduled for delivery next week while I figure stuff out.

I bought this TV on Dec 6th as a gift for Christmas for my parents. The total I paid with tax was $2,119. Soundbar never came in (Showed "returned" in BB purchase history) so I waited for promo on soundbar to end and called them back. They were able to adjust the refund for $309 (tax included) for the sound bar. I also got 5% with BB credit card. Total price is $1,725...

Also, according to Digital Trends, in their comments, they admit that they kind of confirmed that they Fu&$ed up and this is the QD-OLED panel.

Thanks for all your research folks!
