I have plaque build up on my lower teeth in four days time that a toothbrush and floss cant remove because I wear retainers. I find it hard to believe I cant carefully scrape it off with the broad side of one of these instead of going to a dentist once a week or allowing the plaque to build up until a dentist removes it at a twice a year cleaning.

My dentist recommended the gum stimulator to me and I've worn mine out. Hard to find a replacement at this price and the mirror may be useful. Agree that the pick is probably dangerous in the wrong hands.

ChatGPT: A dental gum stimulator, often a rubber-tipped tool, is used to massage and stimulate the gums. It can enhance blood circulation, promote gum health, and help remove plaque between teeth. To use it, gently roll the rubber tip along the gum line, applying light pressure. It's effective for maintaining oral hygiene and supporting gum health, but it's important to use it alongside regular brushing and flossing.

Would a waterpik be a better option?

I was raised in a family with no health insurance and no health concerns. I didn't go to the dentist. My oral hygiene was mainly brushing my teeth only in the morning to control morning breath. I never flossed. Ate candy right before bed without brushing. I finished college and got my first job with benefits. I was soooo nervous after years of no dental visits. I was mentally preparing for all the bad news after the exam. Well.....the dentist said: Everything looks good....you need floss to help control the buildup....but keep up the good work....WTF? I told him my bad oral hygiene and he told me I have either good genes or good oral bacteria especially since he could tell I've never had a filling before (Is having NO fillings very rare?--I have heard this many times). Throughout the years I was still being reminded to floss and one day I started flossing only 2-3 times a week using a floss pick (btw I use the same floss pick until the string breaks) for the past 3 years...and they finally quit reminding me to floss.....telling me I appear to be the type of person who carries floss in their pocket always and that whatever I am doing keep up the great work. My wife brushes her teeth 3 times a day and flosses nightly.....much better oral hygiene than me......and she fillings, cracked tooth, etc.... she is jealous.....at age 46 just proves how genes and oral bacteria is such a big factor in oral care.

Nothing....all teeth are there without fillings.....Home cooking, fast food, restaurants.....steak..fried chicken..pasta......salad..... whatever is cheap or convenient. As a kid school food or home cooking....Olive Garden was a very rare treat...I love soda and juice...... The only cavity I ever had on my adult tooth was on my wisdom tooth that I couldn't brush properly and got them removed.....so I "do" get cavities I guess.....sorry I lied.

My story: Similarly, my parents didn't have dental insurance when I was growing up, so I never went. It wasn't until I was 17 that I started going. I had just 1 itty bitty cavity on one of the lower lower back teeth. That was when I had my first filling. However the dentist I had gave me all sorts of compliments on how great my teeth looked, even the fact that they grew in straight. All I needed by then was my wisdom teeth pulled because they were growing in sideways! Nowadays some people think I had braces. I just tell them- nah, I was too poor for braces 😅 must be good genes? So I think you are on to something. And of course now as an adult my job provides insurance options. I like my annual dental cleanings with the water pick, it's like a little gum massage.

About the deal: I bought this very same Dentek item many years ago to clean out plaque between visits but the pick is too flimsy. I later upgraded to a firmer all-metal pick that now takes the place of the original that came with the set. I still use the other one for my kiddos. IMO This is good to have on hand if you don't already have one, for this price.

I have this set. The scraper bends a bit. Wish I got a standalone full metal stiffer scraper. A lot of the ones out there look like a small scalpel though, which I didnt want.

I am from a very large family and almost everyone has decently aligned teeth....not perfect for a magazine, but good enough to smile......though my oldest brother has very bad oral hygiene and needed dentures in his 40s.......so who know how far genes can work for you I guess.....

People in developing countries don't visit Dentist in their life unless it's needed. Only in US i have get reminded to go every 6 months. I never did. Once I was kinda forced to get checkup and doctor said everything is good, would be good idea to remove wisdom teeth in future? Not sure why he said that, I would do it only if it gives me pain. I think I'm good, I brush two times a day and do wudu/ablution, which includes washing mouth 4-5 times a day.

Am I reading this right? There are actually people in here advocating that you not have regular dental care / visits?

Sure, some people might get lucky - going years without and no ill effects, but I'm shocked to hear people actually suggesting this approach.

Every day the trolling on this site gets more absurd, this is INSANE.

The reason for having your wisdom teeth removed is because when they grow in fully it can mess up the alignment of the teeth which are already there. I had mine removed at 17. Best thing I ever did for my mouth because they were growing in at a 90 degree angle 😬 could you imagine how smashed and crooked my teeth would have been? Besides I've heard that it's painful.
