Agree with all above. These things can be a godsend for particular setups, but it really is a gamble on whether your wiring between those two particular outlets is up to it.

This is a great deal if you looking for Powerline, though. This is the lowest price this kit has been recently--it stays pretty constant at around $50. Too bad it does not have dual ethernet ports or a passthrough outlet. If you want those features plus double the speed, there is a Zyxel AV2000 kit for $60 available: https://www.amazon.com/AV2000-Pow...01MTNKNPZ/

This is really hit or miss. For some folks it will work great but for others it may be absolute trash. I bought one and there was no outlet, not even in the same room that would give me good speeds. Great if it works for you though.

I was a long time proponent of powerline. After people sang the praises of MoCA vs powerline, I did some digging and gave MoCA a whirl. I've been a convert / using it for years. So much more stable and much faster speeds than powerline.

Upvoted for the old times sake and after seeing in the recent reviews that people still have some good use cases for them.

Being a +4 already, this deal is on its way to FP. LMAO

I've used the prior version of these, the AV600 and they work just reliably. These are better and faster of course. But, for the use cases I needed, remote installs and totally reliable they work just as described. I've had them in place long before MESH solutions got to the current very usable state (with additional channel backhaul), so today depending on IF a mesh solution would be better these might be unnecessary.

is this what people are using for wired backhaul on mesh setups? 😅 i just always thought it was kinda pointless to do a wired backhaul (because it's more wires, the antithesis of "wireless") but i understand the stability reasons..just, making mesh nodes basically output-only didn't seem much better than aps that all just had the same ssid/pw

Nah, too slow for use as wired backhaul. More for use on devices without Wi-Fi thst you want to connect. Say a DVR/NVR for security cameras that's tucked away in a weird spot and no Wi-Fi. Connecting a desktop without Wi-Fi and no nearby access point, that kind of stuff. Some people want to wire one Sonos speaker so the built in sonosnet works, odd cases like that these are useful for.

I used to use one for a desktop, never broke 200-210 up and down in speed but it was fine for that machine. Got more mesh APs and connected that desktop to a TP Link mesh ap and now I get my full 600 down and 500 up like I should.

I was able to successfully use powerline to fix my wife's wireless VPN issues due to better latency but it only delivers 10-15Mbps so is useless for wired backhaul. However, upgrading to a beefier router fixed the root problem.

I have MoCa for wired backhaul and it delivers fantastic gig speeds.

I'm sure some are using it that way. I'd take a hard look at MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance), if you have coax in the same rooms, instead. MoCA is the coax/cable equivalent. Coax wiring is subject to less interference, more likely to be in usable condition versus ancient RJ-11 wiring. MoCA adapter sets can be had for a little more on Ebay and can push 2.5 gbps.

In the end, whatever works based on what you already have unless you're up for fishing CAT 6 through the walls. Smilie

These have been perfect for my situation. My only concern is I'm not sure how secure they are. I'm required to have a wired connection for work and this passes the test, plus I get speeds well over 100mbps. IMO it's worth a try if you really need a wired setup.

I've thought of using MoCa, but last I checked it was much more expensive

MoCa are much better. I have tried those and they cut down the bandwidth significantly.

can anyone know if these would work to keep smart home devices separate from main wifi networks and connect to this. I don't know much about technical side but I want to separate my smart devices from my main wifi because I have been getting ip reputation attacks notifications by xfinity from around the world so I'm thinking maybe keeping wifi cameras and smart devices on an extender might reduce the attacks and chances of someone getting into my home network? If someone has other suggestions and could help I really appreciate it. TIA

Oh, these. Still have zyxel brand in a drawer. Tplink just stopped working. 2 of them, couple days apart. Would not recommend
