FYI, the S24 series is supposed to be announced next month. Google Fi should have similar deals on the S24 series, like they did on the S23 at launch. I think the launch S23 deals were even better than the deal listed in this post.

The cheapest is the $20 Flexible Plan (unlimited talk/text, any Data used is $10 per GB, prorated). The taxes & fees usually add another $6-$7 a month. Percentage wise that sounds high, but some of the fees are fixed-amounts per line so they skewed the percentage. Some people in Texas have taxes & fees as high as $10 each month.

I did the Fi pre-release S23 deal in Feb this year. My S23 (with free upgrade to 256GB) was $299.99. So it was better than this deal. Plus the trade-in values at that time was great. I traded in an iPhone11 for $310 which pretty much offset the cost of the S23. My net cost was $27 in sales tax on $299.99, minus the $10 in excess credit.

Anyone know the bands on this device?
The Fi S23 that I bought in Feb this year is the Factory Unlocked USA model (suffix U1). You can look up its specs here (click Expand on the NETWORK category).

This deal expires on Jan 17, 2024 which is when the S24 models are supposed to be introduced. That seems to indicate that some deals on S24 will be available. How good they are, we don't know. My GUESS is that prices will be about $50 higher than prices of S23 models.

After reading your post more closely, the answer is "the phone comes unlocked out of the box". The only thing you need to be concerned about is not losing the promotion discount (keep active FI service for 120 days, don't use the Fi SIM in another phone).
But can you use another sim in THIS phone AFTER-activation and keep the promo discount ?

This has yet to be explicitly answered. nod

I just added to the Wiki a lot of info on how to Activate the phone, Track your promo discount, Verify that your discount was Earned, Cancel or Pause Fi service.

To clarify my previous answer...After activating the physical Fi SIM , you have several options:
1. Keep the Fi SIM in place, and use the eSIM with another provider.
2. Remove the Fi SIM and store it away, then use the physical SIM of another provider.
3. Ask Fi support to transfer service from the physical Fi SIM to the S23's eSIM, then use the physical SIM of another provider.

OK, on OPTION 2, storing the FI sim in drawer, and not changing it to eSIM, WHILE using say Mint physical sim, We can still keep the discount ?

Yes. That's what I did with the 8 phones that I had bought from Fi. All promo discounts were earned after the required length of service.

Screenshot below shows the In Progress of a Fi S23 Ultra that my sister asked me to buy for her in Sept. After activation, I removed the Fi SIM and stashed it in a drawer. She took the phone back home and used it with her T-mo SIM from Day 1. The countdown keeps ticking down each day.

Is this the cheapest way to buy an unlocked S23 right now? $299 + $30x4 = $420ish? Thoughts?

Shop around on Best Buy, Amazon, Samsung, etc and you'll find your answer.
