I received an email earlier today from T-Mobile saying that one of my lines (which currently has an iPhone XR) was eligible to upgrade to a new 5G phone for free to better take advantage of the network. I am on the Simple Choice North America Promo plan with several free lines so this seems like it must apply to a lot of plans.

The fine print in the email (see images in link) made it seem like it was limited to just the Moto G 5G (meh), so I reached out to T-Force via Twitter to ask if any other phones qualified. They confirmed that the iPhone SE 3rd Gen, Nokia G310, Nord 300, and REVVL 6/6X also qualified, but that you had to complete the transaction in store.

I had to go to the mall tonight so stopped by the T-Mobile store after confirming that my account was annotated and the SE was in stock and was able to upgrade to the 128GB black model for the $35 support fee and tax. Bill credits seem to be in process.

You may want to reach out to T-Force to confirm and have them annotate your account as that definitely helped at the store.

I was able to take advantage of the June 2022 deal for another line that had an old iPhone on it so it's been nice to get a couple upgrades for the kiddos.

Hope this helps a few people.

Other than the OS differences, how does the iPhone SE 3rd gen compare to the Moto Edge 2022 5G performance-wise?

If anyone's ineligible for this promo, check out that other deal thread if you don't have to be on iOS. T-mobile is offering (again) free Moto Edge 2022 5G with trade-in of any broken phone on any plan.

OP, when you log in to see your promo, what is the promo ID for the iPhone SE? I'm chatting with T-force but they don't see anything.

What was the email subject title? And did they say they would allow a higher tier iPhone if we paid for the difference in cost after the cost of the free SE 3rd gen?

As long as you got a notice via text or letter, it'll be under your account segments. The keyword here is for them to look at the segments.

I've done two of these before, got an SE both times with nothing paid; not even tax.
Where can I find my account segments? Tried looking in the app and online and I couldn't find it

Iphone SE 3rd gen has iphone 13 A15 CPU so its gonna be faster than most androids. But Screen is so small and battery is 2018mAh really small but it will get updates till 2029

I was told by T-mobile that this promotion is:
Network Retirement: $0 Swap Transaction in Retail for select iPhone customers, this promotion is targeted customers impacted by the 3G UMTS and 2G network retirement can get a free 5G device and have their taxes and Device Connection Charge waived when they visit a retail location. This promotion is for 3G and 2G only devices so many don't qualify.

That's not true. That's a different promotion. This is another targeted promotion. I've been targeted for both. The one you're talking about is walk in the store walk out with a new phone, no trade in, no money, no nothing. This requires a 24 month EIP with monthly credits to make the phone free and it may require a trade in of some sort. This targets non-5G phones, so 4G devices do qualify. The other one targets 2/3G phones. Both of these promos are targeted and if you didn't get the text you're pretty much SOL. The lines have some sort of notation that's put in for these promos. I was targeted for 2 lines on the other one and 3 lines on this one. The 3 lines that are targeted are all 4G devices.

Thank you for this information. The person on t-force had no idea about the other promotion for 4G phones. I have a non-5G phone on multiple lines so I will ask in store.

This is what I got from T-force

".
Thank you for contacting us to find out if you qualify for that promotion, I want to make sure you have all the information possible. That promotion is the Network Retirement: $0 Swap Transaction in Retail for select iPhone customers on which targeted customers impacted by the 3G UMTS and 2G network retirement can get a free 5G device and have their taxes and Device Connection Charge waived when they visit a retail location. We identify the accounts which have only 3G and 2G capable phones and an indicator will show as a sign of qualification. That indicator is missing from your account which means you don't qualify for this promotion, your phones are 4G capable and above."

These are the free phones for everyone (including those who didn't get an email).

You need to go in store and get a manager override to get an iPhone SE, which they'll only do if you qualify for the emailed promotion (and have the associated segment on your account/line.
