This is not the model listed in the lawsuits. The ones listed in the lawsuits are various Extreme and Extreme Pro models as well as the Pro-G40 and Western Digital My Passport. I don't know if this model also suffers from the same issue(s) and I am trying to figure out when it was introduced. I've gone ahead and ordered one given the extended holiday return period. I'll leave it unopened until I decide to keep it or there's a deal on a Samsung T7.

Fire sale on these since they have fatal flaws and drives fail right and left. Don't do it.

Ohh man! Okay I never knew about the lawsuit. I have 4TB two extreme pros that haven't had any issues so far, but I did buy them over a year ago. Are the issues only happening on newer batches or should I plan for these drives to fail any day now?

Right, these are not the ones that are failing , those people who posted above just don't know how to read. The ones that are Failing are the extreme/pro versions.
i think we are well aware these are not the models mentioned that are part of the fiasco. you have different levels of people and some people think if it's not listed, no problem....and others like me realize there are enough choice out there that if you are too close to the problem but not exactly the problem..... vomit

i didn't hesitate to return mine, i will get a crucial.

bingo. lol.

3 places for data parking if you really care about it.

For a transfer drive, or temp Plex thing, or whatever, .... these will be fine imaginably... just don't trust your only copy of your kids photos etc to it you know? Smilie

Yup, completely agree. I have an older 1TB Sandisk Extreme portable model, no issues yet, and bought this deal too. The 2TB capacity is cheap and will be handy for transferring data.

For backing up my 20TB NAS I have a local backup and also a "backup of the backup" offsite. If your only copies of important data are all in one place at home then you're screwed if there's a fire.

Seems to me you would do a burn-in plus maximize (non-critical) use during the return period (unless using it violates return requirements). That way, if it does happen to be faulty, you're likely to detect it, and are protected by the return option.

I'm for one, too. Thanks! My livelihood doesn't hinge on this ssd. Also, sandisk is a huge company with countless products, engineers, factories and nothing suggests to me it's some core feature that all of their lines are affected. Their name is taking a hit, and thus the sale.
any other sale on sandisk products? this sale got nothing to do with the hit. or you will it happened across all their products at any retail stores.

What you suggested makes sense however the issue in the other models seems to be a design flaw, not some random component failure. In any case this would be covered by the 3yr warranty. That said I just realized that I should've used my Amex to purchase this for the additional 1yr warranty extension. Does anyone know how returns for Walmart online purchases work? Do I have to take it back to a physical store? The people working the returns at my local Walmart are not that pleasant to deal with.

I had the same concerns when I returned my unit to Walmart. Is it is easy and this is my experience; no questions asked.

Go to walmart.com (where I purchased my unit) and click on Start A Return. Let them know the reason why (I said I had concerns with the unit reliable) and then I chose to return my purchase to the nearest Walmart store thru the drive-thru pickup area. Just put the return back in the box and drive to a numbered space and when the attendant comes out to your car, show them your barcode, and hand over the return. Got a text message before I left the Walmart and I saw the return post to my credit card in a couple of days.

Thank you Amazon otherwise we wouldn't have such tools available to us in the retail space.

Thank you, this is very helpful. It would seem that online returns do not "count against" the store you are returning it to, and hence they would not be scrutinized as much by the store employees. Which makes sense.

Thanks for your explanation. Fyi, see link below on return policies -- looks like you have options.

I've always just returned to a nearby store.

Finally, take care with drive warranties: sometimes on replacement, you get the same model with the same potential defect/failure potential.

Does Samsung T7 have the best quality? I see many people mentioning it.

Thank you for that link, FedEx drop off option is perfect as there is one close to me. As for the warranty replacement, my hope was that if it fails in a couple of years, the replacement they send me (either an updated version of this model or an entirely different model if this one is discontinued) will have addressed any flaw that was present.

In this lower price range the T7 seems to be the best. I was also looking at the Crucial X8 when it was on sale a few weeks ago but that one really slows down during large writes (no DRAM cache?) and there also seems to be more reports of failures. It's also said to use QLC NAND.
