Since I only use French press at home, it's hard for me to justify spending this much to replace my Kyocera manual grinder…
I've never had a good grinder, and make cold brew a lot. I've been grinding it a horrid grinder. The thought of manual grinding sounds nice. Would you recommend the one you have? Thank you!
I got this on sale from Amazon last time around and have been mostly pleased with it so far. Serviceable espresso grinders at or under $200 were rare and now there are lots of great options - the Baratza Encore ESP, the Turin SD40, and now this - that can make the hobby more approachable than it has been in the past.
The biggest annoyance for me is the grind retention - it's anywhere between .2-.5g on each grind and as others have noted, it can get a bit messy. Spritzing the beans with water before grinding is supposed to help but I have yet to try it myself.
Otherwise, I haven't had any problems dialing in grind size for my Breville Bambino. The magnetic catch cup for the grinds is a nice touch, and the grooves around the opening fit perfectly with the 54mm portafilter on my machine and so I can put the portafilter on top of the catch cup with the grinds, flip it over and fill the portafilter without the need for a dosing funnel. The Beanie app is also useful for dialing in grind sizes (and the Opus has a micro inner adjustment ring to go with the macro adjustment ring on the outside, which can be tricky to figure out), and allows you to save and store grind settings.
How would this do for regular drip coffee? I'm currently using an inexpensive Krups GX5000. It does ok at grinding, but it's loud and messy. We don't do espresso or cold brew.
This code does not work and when I went to check out I ended up being charged the amount without the code and now have to go through the hassle of canceling the order.
