Death Stranding was one of them. They mistakenly let the Director's Cut out for free for the first lucky few who claimed right away, most likely a mistake on Epic's part. After that, it was the base standard edition for everyone else.
Epic Games gives one or two free games every week throughout the year. This is a special daily freebie that is expected to start on Dec 13. Go to the link in the post (or the Epic Games home page), log into your account, and you'll see the free games in the section that currently shows GigaBash & Predecessor with a mystery game showing for Dec 13. That's where the limited-time free games show up. There are other games that are always free-to-play on that page as well, but look for the ones that are temporarily free. Make sure to claim the games while they're free, and they'll be added to your game library to keep.
I check the Epic Games subreddit during this time period because someone usually figures out the clues for the mystery games before hand. So that's a good sub to follow, even if it's just for the giveaway period.
I think the trend for the past two holiday seasons is there's one, big, AAA game that the majority of users find awesome and scramble to get. The rest ends up being dinky games no one's heard of or repeats of games given away in the past for those who missed it the first time around.
The only game that I have yet to see pop up again is GTA V. I think it was a one-time thing and I managed to snag it but it was never brought back again. People keep hoping for it and there's always a chance this year but....who knows.

I think GTAV was an early pandemic gift from epic. That's where I got it at least
Does Epic not like SD's redirects any more (on Chrome)?
It's possible your web browser is infected with something that is altering the referrer code. Slickdeals would otherwise get a kick back if you bought something They linked to. That's literally how this site is monetized.

Will some of the games run on old laptops without graphics card?
Depends on the game. Maybe not the higher-end games, or at least not on the higher graphics settings. For free, you can always try. Or use a service like NVIDIA GeForce NOW to stream the game through your internet, playing the game using their systems.

Yep, I disabled my ad blocker before clicking and got that result.
edit: Tried just now and it worked. Temporary problem. 😁

Thats the game my friend. Keep up! It has become everyones hobby to buy the games and keep it n their backlog.
I'm not sure how old my account even is at this point but I've never even installed their launcher to play the free games lol. I just collect them because it takes 5 seconds pressing buttons. That's the game to me.

I remember Bloons TD6 being one that I didn't scoop up, and later bought on Steam, and then later later Epic had it for free again haha
