UPDATE (Dec 13):
It seems that they might not be doing the daily free games as expected, as the next free game is available in 7 days from the Dec 13 one (available on Wed, Dec 20). Based on the following information, they say there will be 17 free games available during the Epic Games Store Holiday Sale.

On this Epic Games Store Holiday Sale page [epicgames.com], it states the following in different places on the page:
"We want you to have the happiest of holidays for 2023, so we've put together the most festive sale. It has thousands of discounted games, limitless 33% Epic Coupons, an Epic Rewards boost to 10%, 17 free games, and free cosmetics for everyone."

"The event runs from today (Dec. 13, 2023) 11 AM ET (4 PM GMT / 5 PM CET), to Jan. 10, 2024 11 AM ET (4 PM GMT / 5 PM CET) Read about the highlights below!"

"17 free games! The Epic Games Store Holiday Sale 2023 is full of free games for the duration of the sale, and the first one has just gone live! Head to the Epic Games Store Free Games page to find out all the details."
The Free Games page [epicgames.com] at the bottom now states the following:
"Giveaways are redeemable, free of charge, from December 13, 2023 at 11am EDT and will end on January 10, 2024 at 11am EDT. Giveaways are available to new and existing players and are available only in countries where the specific title and Epic Game Store are both offered. All giveaways are either redeemable in-game, or directly on the Epic Games Store and are redeemable only once."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
It appears that Epic Games [epicgames.com] may start another year of daily free mystery games for approximately 15 days in the latter half of December. The first free mystery game will be revealed on Wednesday, December 13 (11am ET, 10am CT, 9am MT, 8am PT).

These are usually only available for 24 hours, so set a reminder so you don't miss them. In the past, this ran from Dec 15-29 in 2022 and from Dec 16-30 in 2021.

Note that this is unconfirmed but is expected based on prior years and the fact that the next free game is a wrapped mystery game that starts on a Wednesday instead of the normal Thursday. There are also articles out there talking about it. If you normally check on Thursdays, you'll miss the first one.

Game Listing:
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Death Stranding was one of them. They mistakenly let the Director's Cut out for free for the first lucky few who claimed right away, most likely a mistake on Epic's part. After that, it was the base standard edition for everyone else.

Free game history: https://www.pcgamer.com/epic-game...ames-list/

I remember Bloons TD6 being one that I didn't scoop up, and later bought on Steam, and then later later Epic had it for free again haha
Epic Games gives one or two free games every week throughout the year. This is a special daily freebie that is expected to start on Dec 13. Go to the link in the post (or the Epic Games home page), log into your account, and you'll see the free games in the section that currently shows GigaBash & Predecessor with a mystery game showing for Dec 13. That's where the limited-time free games show up. There are other games that are always free-to-play on that page as well, but look for the ones that are temporarily free. Make sure to claim the games while they're free, and they'll be added to your game library to keep.
Move over Yule log, time for more back log.

Thought maybe the candy was the umbrella logo. Then the three vertical lines on the ornament gave me a resident evil vibe. But they really only have dead by daylight RE mods so I'm guaranteed to be wrong

In the past they have released 'new to them' titles as part of giveaways. So there is a chance, but expect something like Biohazard or Village.

I already have Destiny 2 on Steam. When I try to get Destiny 2 Legacy on Epic, it makes me add on the base game... what happens if I have the base game on both platforms? Or does Epic end up just going through Steam for both and it'll figure things out?

Looks like you also get Alan Wake Remastered digital voucher emailed to you. Not bad. And a Fortnite skin, and back bling thing.
Can you elaborate on how you got the Alan Wake Remastered voucher please?

I don't know as I'm not buying it, but on the Epic Games store page, it says you get a digital voucher code emailed to you if you buy before January 10th. I'm sure someone will buy it so hopefully they can answer your question. Smilie

I'm hoping for Days Gone. Seems like it's the right age for a giveaway. If not, I'll probably buy it the next time it's on sale next year.
Never first party sony games. I've never seen one given away by anyone but PlayStation

I just did this last night, I added the base game to epic and then the legacy edition. Once it starts to download it will download destiny 2 on epic launcher. If you use Steam, you won't be able to access the legacy edition from Epic so I activated cross save feature so my characters are available on all the platforms. After that I uninstalled the game on Steam since I don't need it to be both platform (and to delete 100gb on Steam). Started destiny 2 on Epic and my characters and stuff were there with the new edition. Hope this helps; it was a little confusing. Oh, if the game doesn't launch on Epic, you will need to go delete the epic launcher cache, after that it will delete. Google how to do so online, it's pretty simple. Enjoy.

Destiny 2 now uses a battleye which is a highly invasive root kit controlled by a different company (not bungie). It can see everything, transmit anything, run anything on your system because it has full unrestricted control of your pc. Their reasoning is that it is necessary to completely take over your computer and look at anything so that they can permanently ban you if you are suspected of cheating. Just an FYI if you're not comfortable giving your pc and everything on it to a third party.

Battleye is a standard anticheat that is used by tons of games and only stores the most minimal amount of data it needs to detect cheat programs. It's similar to EAC. If you want to play multiplayer games and don't want to deal with hackers, you'll have to get used to having these anticheat programs. I've played every Battlefield game, which has used Battleye since the early 2000's and have never had problems.

Edit: Removing VAC to appease dopeman.

Also, anyone can check these links to see what games use EAC or BE:

https://www.battleye.com/
https://www.easy.ac/en-us/partners/

You aren't giving Bungie kernel level access. You're giving the anti cheat application that access.

VAC isn't kernel-level so they are not the same. It is indeed becoming widespread for competitive fps but that doesn't make it any less concerning. Read the comments on EA's version at Ars to see how some people feel about it:
https://arstechnica.com/gaming/20...nts-page=1

Battleye further forces you to disable a security setting that's used to block these sorts of intrusions by malware (core isolation, stack protection). This has been the case for months.

There are also numerous reports as you can see in their faq about it killing applications that have nothing to do with cheating.

Most gamers probably don't care about disabling their pc security settings and couldn't care less about what's running on their pc interfering with other apps but a lot of people do care.
