These are great for adding bulk and making sure the exterior gets scratched by dirt that inevitably makes its way between the outer case and the laptop.

I've used a hard shell on literally all of my MacBook Pros for the past 10 years, including my most recent M2 Max the past year and have never had an issue.

All of my machines look like the day they came out of the box and function just as well.

To another user's post here about overheating:

Overheating is also not an issue as these machines vent themselves out of the rear.

If you're experiencing overheating, then make sure you're not covering the back vents, which is easy to do if you're propping them up with your legs while sitting down or if you have it on a bed where you're leaning it upward (the back vents would be pressed against whatever surface you're on).

This applies whether you have a case on or not.

Last 5 years i've put thin hard cases on gf's laptop. No issues. No dirt is never going to build up enough to cause a heat issue, thats ridiculous. It will save it from getting scratched or dented from small drops.
