No, it isn't. If you purchased before their 25% off coupon: RK25 expired on December 8th, as I did, it would have been only $89.

In hindsight it deserved its own thread. But it was mentioned here: https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/t/17084716

This is a music player only. Nvidia shield is a media player which is mostly for video

wiim software better than apple music or Spotify? I highly doubt it. All those hi-end streamer/dac just use android system and you can run Apple music, tidal, amazon music or Spotify directly.
Then don't buy it. Jog on. Ffs.

Or just get the Wiim Pro Plus. It was on offer BF/CM for 175$. That one has a much better DAC.
My Denon should have a better DAC than a Wiim pro plus

Probably, but it's the combo of good streamer, DAC and easy to use/reliable software that makes it such a popular product among audiophiles.

If you don't have a specific use case for it, then maybe it's not for you.

For me, it's streaming 24bit/192kHz from Amazon Music on my Marantz SR5014.
The Marantz has a good DAC, but Google Chromecast just doesn't support that kind of streaming.

Denon AVR performance in DAC dept has been okay.
Nothing to get excited about but better than a lot of AVR comparators.

The WiiM Pro Plus has been measured. It performed extremely well. I don't know of any Denon DAC product that is as perfromant.
DAC performance is 100% an objective trait. You measure the signals and compare.

All the WiiM streamers offer bit perfect Toslink passthrough. This is how I feed my miniDSP. In a situation like this the streamers DAC is of no consequence as it is not used. The miniDSP has to use its own DAC as it need to manipulate the audio.

If anyone needs a remote for the WiiM Mini Oe regular Pro it is only $20

Would this WiiM Pro Streaming music player somehow be better or considered an upgrade over my Yamaha WXC-50 MusicCast Wireless Streaming Preamplifier?

Holy crap, that title tho.

"WiiM Pro Wi-Fi Wireless Audio Streaming Multiroom Stereo Receiver Music Player"

I'd totally play the Super Happy Smile Joy Fun Time Family Wish Radio Show on it.

I really like these WiiM streamers as Roon endpoints. I hardwire them to my mesh nodes, and am typically streaming flac files and Qobuz. Sometimes an album is only available on Apple Music, and I can easily connect to the WiiM and switch sources. I don't think I've ever used the remote. I've had to restart maybe once or twice in the past year or so. WiiM may one day be a roon killer, or maybe Harman will buy them, too. But right now Wiim appear to regularly update their app and bring new features/products to market.

I think these streamers can satisfy most audiophiles, but depending on how you listen you may want to consider the DAC as the weak point (unless you get the pro plus version like rooskie said above). Personally, I'd put that money towards a separate DAC or a DAC+amp combo like the smsl c200. Poor man's audiophile setup… but it will open up worlds you never knew existed with the music you love. With this cheap, transparent setup, you can then spend more money on better headphones or speakers (or, dare I say, both?).

Hook up your AV receiver with ARC or EARC to your flat screen. Pull up YouTube and search for MrVinylobsessive. Set the video quality to 1080p. Start with dire straits sultans of swing. Thank me later. Most receivers have wonderful DACS.
lol! Thank you later for what? Some 50y old, obscure reference? Bet you shiver in the dark thinking bout earc or arc 😆 🤣

It is really hard to know with receivers but I would say if you are happy with how music sounds on the Denon you are all set. Hearing a difference between DACs has never been something I could do unless the DAC was something really poor like a cheap USB dongle.

Does Wiim Pro wifi support airplay 2? Their official page says yes, but there's no mention of it on the Rockville audio page.

It does support Airplay 2. It can receive from an Apple device or broadcast music to something like an Apple TV.

Don't know what this is for...do I need to connect it to a dac which I don't have or a receiver?

You've got that correct. You need to connect it to some sort of powered output for your speakers, whether the speakers are powered themselves, or powered by a receiver. There is a DAC inside the wiim pro, which is reportedly just OK. If you want a better DAC (if you aren't sending the audio digitally to a receiver) then it's recommended to look at the wiim pro plus, which has an upgraded DAC. If you're just sending the audio to a receiver the TOSLINK/optical out will do just fine.
