I have this saw, it's great. Had to upgrade to a slider (Ryobi) because I needed the reach capacity, but it's not as good as this one.

If I recall correctly, with 10" meter saw I had to do two cuts for 2x8" (i.e. cut the half, flip, and then cut the other half)

Not sure of your price point, but the ridgid miter saw stand goes on sale for $100 to $120 a couple times a year, Black Friday, father's day/memorial day.
