Novice question for these member only deals, Can a non Costco member buy this using his credit card from member account?

While you need a Costco membership to shop in stores, non-members can place orders on Costco.com.
Without a membership, you'll face a 5% surcharge on the items you're buying.

Bad speakers kills it for me
I cycle through laptops fairly often and I found that the (now free) FX Sound program does a nice job at making poor laptop speakers sound decent.

Costco has had some good laptop deals this year.

This is a great price.

If I needed a 14" laptop, I would definitely buy this.

So, I found a review of this exact iGPU that had the Time Spy graphics score at 2,900. A 1650 mobile will clock around 3,600, so this is one notch below that. Yes, it will definitely game at FHD+ resolution, especially older games.

A good comparison out right now for gaming are the windows steam deck competitors like the rog ally, chipsets like the Z1 extreme also share the 780m and perform very similarly.so you can likely do a whole bunch of similar games they can do.

Awesome deal!

How does this compare to the ASUS TUF A16 [bestbuy.com] for gaming purposes? I just bought one from Best Buy on Sat night and am awaiting delivery on it but I could always return it.

Nice thing about this screen resolution is you can use integer scaling to game at 900p without distortion (if playing a game too demanding for native res). I'd rather game at 900p over 720 or 1080 on this chip. It's a good compromise between the two. It gives more frames than 1080 while not looking as low resolution as 720.

My wife is getting into digital photography more and wants to start using Photoshop and Lightroom. Does anyone know if this computer would work for those applications? Or do I need something with a dedicated GPU?

Just for photos (even large RAW files), you can get by without dedicated GPU. But if you are going to do video editing, then a dedicated GPU would be a definite requirement. Also, I am assuming that you will need a separate calibrated monitor for accurate editing.

Zenbook 14x is fantastically solid and durable and it has 2x Thunderbolts.

Here you get much better iGPU and $100.

Also, my guess would be that speakers and battery are slightly better on Asus, while camera is better here

Overall, both of them are the best laptops you can buy at this price if you need 120Hz OLED and are OK with 16GB and no dGPU
That Zenbook 14x has the i7, which has worse battery life than the Ryzen 7. The Ryzen chips have better power management.

You're right about the speakers and build quality on the Zenbook.

This Pavilion has variable refresh, and I think the Zenbook is static at 120hz, but I may be wrong on that one. The variable refresh could help with battery life, but it's likely negligible.

This video on the Pavilion talks about the battery life differences. There are bookmarks in the description to jump to specific review points.

Does anyone know if this has a 16:9 or 16:10 screen. Can't seem to find anything that says either way. I guess if it was 16:10 it would show up in reviews.

2880 / 1800 = 1.6

16 / 10 = 1.6

If you want to game, you need a dedicated graphics card, which this laptop does not have. If you can afford to, it's better to add another ~$200 and you can get a laptop with comparable specs that also has a NVIDIA 4060 mobile graphics card.
