It is an Internet gateway with FW/IPS/NAT and a switch all in one (no WiFI). This gets you into the Ubiquiti system with its ability to manage other Ubiquiti devices centrally. It is what many would consider prosumer networking gear since you are using a separate Internet gateway, access points, POE switches, etc.

Came here to post this! I picked up a UDMP for the same price (during their BF sale) and couldn't be happier.

Other great offers:

Network Video Recorder Professional [ui.com]- $399 ($100 off)
Network Video Recorder [ui.com] - $199 ($100 off)
Dream Wall [ui.com] - $799 ($200 off)
G4 Doorbell Pro [ui.com] - $199 ($100 off)
G4 PTZ [ui.com] - $999 ($801 off)

Well damn...

I need a gateway, since I've been using my old orbi as one. Buy the udm pro and sell the key gen 2 and orbi?

Or just keep the key gen and get a new gateway lite? Already have a unvr.

I have room in the rack so it would certainly install cleaner.

Im very tempted, but my house just isn't set up for any pro-sumer IT equipment. I'd have to get a small IT rack, otherwise it would just be sitting on a desk. Not sure if that's ideal airflow.

Also, that desk would be in my bedroom. Can anyone comment on the fan noise of one of these? I'd likely replace my Nest cameras (6) with Unifi cameras and my Google nest router/mesh with this. Not sure if that's enough to really get the fans going or not.
Currently my CK+ and my 48 port poe professional sit in a vertical 2u mount on the wall in my utility room. I know it's not "optimal" for air flow, but I don't seem to have any issues.

I plan on putting the UDM Pro in place of the CK+.
My point ist hat you don't necessarily need a rull or even partial rack for this.

edit: I can't answer your question about noise as mine sit in a utility room. I will note that I replaced the fans in my 48 port poe professional switch with noctua ones (same air flow, but quieter). I remember it being loud before that.

I haven't installed my UDM Pro yet so can't speak to it.

Someone give me a reason to move from an Edgerouter 4 to this. Home use, 1gig fiber, 3x Unifi AC Lites, 48-port GbE switch.
Better UI (subjective)
Ability to add Protect

Bonus:
you'll have less money to upgrade your AC Lites which aren't doing your gig fiber any justice, so you'll take out a 2nd mortgage just to upgrade to the proper wifi 6 pro devices. Big Grin

I got one during the BF sale. I used the money saved to pay for their 5 year extra care plan which included overnighting a replacement (though I've never had an issue with my unifi stuff, it gave me the warm and fuzzies)
Smart. I probably really should have done this, but I guess I don't learn. Just purchased again and didn't buy the extra care plan.

Lots of options. What items would make a good starter set for DVR and 3 cameras and doorbell?

I assume the G4 Doorbell Pro is wired. Does anyone have one? What's the difference between it and a nest or other brand?

Replaced my USG-3 with a UDM-Pro in the last 2 weeks. Saw a throughput increase from ~600 mbps to ~950 mbps on a 1 gbps fiber line. Did a direct transfer from offsite remote backup into Network restore, no other settings changed. Very, very pleased.
Was that with IPS on, or just basic firewall acl and nat?

I love love LOVEEE ubiquiti but they have low warranty coverage for the $$ you are spending/investing and very poor support. Even with brand new equipment support is required if the equipment is faulty and getting that support can take weeks.

Other than the warranty and support side Ubiquiti is amazing.

Would this [bhphotovideo.com] be a good starter POE switch just to power 2 APs and 2 cameras?

Dang, bought the UNVR and Doorbell a couple months ago (along with a couple G5 bullets) after reading that they never do sales. Would have been nice to save $200. Oh well, I'll just hold off buying any more cameras for a while and hope they go on sale

According to ubiquiti;

"3.5+ Gbps routing with IDS/IPS"

So you should have no degradation with IPS enabled.
