I bought the Ultra 2 as an upgrade from my Series 7 due to the fact it had sapphire glass (more durable), bigger display (my eyesight isn't what it used to be), longer battery life, and I was curious about the double tap feature. Overall, I've been pleased. The things I've enjoyed most since owning (bought open box BB when it came out for ~$620+tax) have been the flat display (feels like more usable space than the curve), the sturdiness of the buttons and ease of access to buttons (I use a Mac and use the watch to double click to unlock), the battery life, the sleep tracking (which do since I have the battery life), and the double click feature. Double click is most helpful for me when dismissing a notification or replying to a text or email. Since that's something I do frequently, it's worth something to me. I probably wouldn't pay for it myself for just that though.

I would upgrade from my Ultra 1, but I don't see any good trade in offers.

I can testify the screen and overall look is significantly different/better on the Ultra 2. It's so much bigger and solid looking.

We got an open-box excellent Ultra 2 from
Best Buy with Toal membership (AppleCare+ included) for 662+taxes during Black Friday. If it comes back to around that I'd recommend picking that up as an open-box.

At or around that price we justified it with the following:

- Brighter screen
- More durable/scratch resistance
- Miscellaneous additional features (siren specifically just in case)
- Chase Freedom card (or Best Buy card) offers 18-24m 0% interest

Lastly, we do a lot of 3rd party sales with tech. In our area, the Ultra 1 is selling for ~575-615 currently. I figure for 700 after tax with an open-box + AppleCare, we only lose roughly 100 bucks when we're ready to sell in 2 years. Compared to the S8 in our area that has dropped about 175.

So in 2 years, an ultra is cheaper in the long run and at 0% interest we're paying 39/month.

Hope that helps!
Is the 0% on the BB credit card?

Which, frankly, isn't that great versus it's competitors at the same price point. Garmin OLED versions run practically weeks in comparison.

A watch isnt an Iphone. I run marathons and other long races. The battery life on this would be better for me. Right now Ill stick with my Watch 6 and 7. I am sure you dont know this has some potential life saving technolgy to locate people lost etc. Like people who climb mountains. Probably waiting for the next version of this watch in 2024. Unlike other cheap goods you may like these are not worthless the day after you buy it. There are meany health tools and benefits in the Apple watches. Some insurance companies will subsidize or even cover the cost of an Apple watch.
Why didn't you choose a Garmin if I may ask.

45mm vs 49mm is not the size of the screen; it's the case size. The increase in display size from 45mm Series 7/8/9 to the Ultra is 3.675%. The reason that it "looks" bigger than it actually is due to the thicker black bezels around the actual display on the Ultra line.
That is a very good point. However, that 3.67% definitely adds more legibility over Series X watches, I feel like, especially for text, and makes it slightly more touch friendly for fat fingers.

Yes. If you spend $699 or more, you can get 24 months 0% interest. I price matched this watch from Best buy and was able to do 24 months payments

Just bought the Ultra 2 and have been using it for a couple of days. I love everything about this watch until nighttime. At night, the screen is SO dim it's difficult to read the small text. Even when brightness settings are at full brightness, the screen is still really dim. Compared to my old Series 4 watch, the S4 is way brighter at nighttime compared to the U2.

A quick Google search showed that a lot of people are complaining about this issue with the Ultra 2 and the Series 9. With the most recent update (watchOS 10.2) the issue still isn't fixed. Apparently Apple is aware of the issue and hopefully another software/firmware update will fix it soon. Just FYI.

Got stainless series 8 for $500. Worth the extra $200 to get Ultra 2?

Agree on this. As user of fenix 7s pro, this life saving feature of a watch is total bs. If you are going to pursue a life taking activities, please be ready for it. Whether that be to take a pack with emergency kit or extra gear, take a partner with those activities. You may not be able to make it while waiting for helpers/rescuer to arrive. They are trying to sell you a solution that most people will never encounter. Normal people will be doing simple activities like running, walking ect. so it should not be a concern.

The stainless steel on Walmart were like $349

https://slickdeals.net/f/17163064-apple-watch-series-8-gps-cellular-45mm-silver-stainless-steel-case-with-white-sport-band-m-l-349

It´s more fast and the screen bigger, I just trade a Series 8 in bestbuy for $235, I bought it at target refurbished for $180.

I have the same issue with my series 8 (too dim in dark).
And no Apple does not consider this an issue and it won't be fixed unfortunately.
