this really needs Google App store original. Sideloading sux
Amazon's plan with these tablets isn't for you to download a bunch of apps from the app store.
They want you to buy "Kids+", which is an app subscription service for kids and also a locked-down skin.
I'll be honest, these tablets are awful if you want to use them without the Amazon Kids+. However, no one (Apple/Google/etc) offers anything close to kids. I can set screentime, limit apps, even turn off their access. Every video/app/book has been verified as appropriate for the specific age of your kid. I can even review every single app/video that my kid has watched.

Is there anything unique about the kids one that makes sideloading worse than the regular one? I got a Fire Max 11 for $90. For the price, I think it's great. I only use a tablet to read the news, read books, and watch movies and TV shows on the go. The specs in these are sufficient for me to do those things for at least 2 years. When it starts lagging more, I sell the old one on eBay and buy the latest one for cheap. Usually costs me a net of about $30-40. I've been doing this for 6 years now, and I paid about $220 total. I'm on my fourth tablet.
