Mazda is having a hard time moving inventory. I bought a new CX-5 Signature at the peak of the pandemic shortages with 0.9% financing and $1000 below MSRP.

I absolutely love the car. As absurd and silly as this sounds, it's far more Cayenne than RAV-4. My only complaint is that gas mileage is mediocre to poor.

One thing i've learned in life is, once you make a large purchase, like a house or car, etc. Just stop looking and researching, you'll only be disappointed

Are car prices back to normal?
Not really!
I used to go up from invoice price and now it's down from msrp. I don't hear out the door price below or near msrp anymore. I"m in CA.

This vs subaru outback/ascent? Tempting
I would personally go with the Mazda. In my experience, Subarus can tend to have engine problems. I have several friends that have had their Subaru engines throw a rod or have a bearing fail. One guy I know is on his third engine under warranty.

When car shopping reach out to every dealer in a 2 hour drive radius and tell them to give you their lowest and final and you'll pay cash otd the next day. Most won't play ball but normally enough will
I used to do that... but now many won't respond with price and want you to visit because they don't have much inventory.
I still help friends.. but the key is to reach the Internet Sales and not retail guys that stand around. Internet sales used to just move inventory and save on their loans. Now they have mix making harder to get good deals.

Whoa!!!!! I do not want to know about this.

That's a great deal. I was shopping a few months ago and this deal would save $5-10K out of the door price for this car.

Wish they had it for the CX50.

Don't forget the two types of Subaru engines available:

Those that have had their head gasket blown, and those that will.

Teal is misinformed

Do not follow this suggestion of paying with cash ...especially at 0%

Dealers earn easy money on financing and hence the deal is much more attractive to them

Nothing stops you from a loan payoff at any time

And in this case borrow the max that Mazda will lend and purchase a ~5% CD and enjoy your earnings

Or even features not being the same across different models.

For example, my 2016 6 touring (mid) trim has auto up/down driver control for all 4 windows, and has air vents for the back row, but on my wife's 2016.5 CX-5 grand touring (top, at the time) trim, the driver does not have auto up/down for the other windows, and there are no air vents for the back, even though it is a crossover SUV!

Btw is Mazda still only installing halogen headlights or are they finally joining the modern car world with led or at least hid headlights?
Mazda has had great lighting options for a very long time. Every CX5 model, including base, has auto-leveling LED headlights at a minimum. Higher models have the ability to help you see around turns or use auto-high beams.

Hell, my 2007 Mazda 3 had xenon headlights which may still be my favorite in any car I've owned.

Anyone here who was debating between RAV4 and CX-5 and decided to go with CX-5, and why so? Curious to hear your thoughts. Without a question CX-5 is far better priced but it is a smaller car than RAV4 and perhaps not as well recognized as the Toyota brand. I was 100% going for RAV4 but started feeling it is overpriced for what you're getting and you're getting a lot less for the buck. If anyone here has owned both cars, has both their reliability been about the same?
Full disclosure never owned a Rav4 but have spent a lot of time in them.

The Rav4 has better gas mileage and is an appliance to get your from point A to point B. It's boring, and I mean that as a compliment. It's very good at what it does.

The Mazda CX5 is meant to straddle having the Japanese reliability with somewhat of a German/European driving feel. If you like to drive, the Mazda is significantly more engaging. The steering is heavier it takes bumps and turns very well, while somehow being less punishing on your lower back than the Rav4. It feels a lot like my BMW X3 m-sport, albeit with less power from under the hood. The transmission and throttle response are more responsive, without any 'rubber band' effect.

I find the seats and ride of the Mazda so much more comfortable on long drives, and especially as my Mazda aged, the seats remained pliable whereas my friend's Toyotas became hard. Mazda seats in the higher trim levels also have better controls for lumbar, tilting, etc. I'm a smaller guy and comfort is subjective, but I don't think these factors regarding build quality would change for anyone else.

Anyway, I suggest you go drive them. But drive the Mazda first if you can. Then get in the Rav4. They are very different and you'll know immediately.

Mazda introduced the CX-90 alongside the CX-9 and it has now fully replaced the CX-9. This isn't exactly new news. https://www.caranddriver.com/news...continued/

I bought cx5 carbon edition in November. Got it for 5.75% interest. I asked the dealer if they have any 0% interest for December. He said they never have 0% interest as the cx5 is very popular. I called him once i saw the special he says he cant do anything about interest rate.

I know this is the CX-5 thread but just wondering if anyone here has an experience with a newer Mazda 3 sedan? I'm in the market for a car and the Mazda 3 looks decent (at least on paper). I believe the 2.5 NA 4 cylinder that Mazda is using a cylinder deactivation if I'm not mistaken? Is that an issue these days for longevity? I believe Mazda has these a handful of years back and took it away for a few years and then brought it back so maybe they improved it?
Just sold my 2007 Mazda3 GrandTouring with just over 160kmiles on it. Still had the ORIGINAL clutch for the manual transmission which had no slip, despite teaching 5 of my friends to drive stick on it... I didn't hold back when driving that car and it took it like a champ. Only issues I had over 14 years were a starter and a thermostat. Both of which I replaced myself. Anything else was wear and tear.

HIGHLY recommend. The car never left me stranded. Really fun to drive. I only upgraded because I needed something that could tow.
