Mazda is having a hard time moving inventory. I bought a new CX-5 Signature at the peak of the pandemic shortages with 0.9% financing and $1000 below MSRP.

I absolutely love the car. As absurd and silly as this sounds, it's far more Cayenne than RAV-4. My only complaint is that gas mileage is mediocre to poor.

Premiun Plus
MSRP (negotiable) $36,500.00

Rear Bumper Guard (negotiable) $135.00

Delivery Fee (non-negotiable) $1,375.00

Total Sticker Price $38,835.00

Friends and Family discount -$2,600.00
Mazda Loyalty discount -$500.00
Total Price of Car (This probably where your bread and butter is in terms of where you can negotiate) $35,735.00

One thing i've learned in life is, once you make a large purchase, like a house or car, etc. Just stop looking and researching, you'll only be disappointed

This vs subaru outback/ascent? Tempting
I love my Legacy but look at the Ascent's reliability and you'll choose this model.

I went with a 2020 Pilot and couldn't be more disappointed. The infotainment system is an absolute disaster. 4x in the shop and I needed 1 more to invoke the Lemon Law in my state and then it hit 20k miles and now stuck with it.

I dont understand the point of buying these new. You can get a clean, recent low mileage used for thousands less, and these hold up, so the few extra miles aren't going to mean much.

Mine was mostly good. No issues whosoever during my 6.5 years of ownership. Except steering wheel was too damn stiff, cabin was too loud, and wiper was absolutely terrible. I think they fixed most issues in latest cars because my friend's latest cx5 was certainly better. Oh right, the service center near my house was also bad but of course it'd be different for you.
When I bought my 2021 CX-5 Signature, the dealership made a huge deal about the amount of work Mazda put into reducing cabin noise in the late 2010s

Find a "rational" Mazda dealer that's a cheap flight away.
Driving 3 hours+ home in a new ride...priceless.
Driving 3+ hours mostly nonstop on a brand new car is not a great idea for engine wear. Unless you are modulating your RPM/speed almost constantly. (no load, medium load). This allows the engine to wear all friction areas at different rates to allow for wear across the most used RPM ranges. instead of just burning in one RPM for 2 hours.
Source that I got the information from. If you watch the entire video you should get a sense that you can trust what he is saying.

Maybe this doesn't matter too much for "economy" cars as much as "performance" vehicles.
I followed the same practices on my WRX when i got it new and I haven't had any engine issues so far.

Who cares about grand total? Price before tax, title, license and doc fees is what matters most to compare apples to apples.

Pre-COVID, CX-5's were easily had at 17-18% under MSRP, where Invoice used to be but no longer is. It doesn't mean the dealers are paying more than their vehicles. It's a game all manufacturers have played, increasing the Invoice price up and up over time, Mazda included.

I have no idea what people pay nowadays but the CX-5 is on its way out and dated, no matter the strong package that it is. We passed and bought a hybrid and we have a 2015 6 that was 18.3% off MSRP with good negotiation in a large market and a lot of dealers trying to play ball. Mazda has drug its feet and invested in stupid areas that haven't materialized and not invested in ones it should have (hybridization). We'll likely never buy Mazda again now that they are trying to move upmarket but I do not believe they will be around 10 years from now. They'll try to play the closer-to game and outprice themselves.
Otd price that's what matters the most. Dealer add on junk doc fees like crazy . Only naive look at price other than OTD

CX-5 are notorious for the transmission failures. Please do your research. These need a new transmission as early as 300miles. Just replaced mine at 63K. Mazda is already aware of this. My local dealer did 3 replacements just last month.

Cost of replacement is $6.5K. I highly recommend getting extended warranty.

only a fool allows the finance manager to add the extra fees. OTD means different numbers by state and county. Everything in a dealership is negotiable and they will never let you walk out the door if you say no to the adds.

90k miles on a 2016 CX5 - almost 8 years without any issues. Just regular maintenance
