I was curious about this and bought. Using for a couple of month, was debating if I should return it but didn't. The only plus is the unique taste from the past. I used to pop on stove for that, and it is easier with this machine. BUT, it triggers my smoke alarm every time, may be prevented with smoke screen. The worst part, it pushes out unpopped kernels out and half of it ends up not popping. I mitigated that problem by placing a metal smoke screen between the cap and the housing and remove it once popped kernels start accumulating. Plus, it is impossible to clean the housing because nothing comes off besides the cap. Tried their butter recipe ones, and it is covered with butter ever since. On top, the metal housing either started corroding at the bottom or covered in carbon. Looks like should have returned it but it still lingers in my kitchen. We only exchange regretful glances every time I enter my kitchen but it won't magically go to landfill by itself, where it should go.

If you have a stovetop, a tiny bit of patience, and care about good tasting popcorn, do you yourself a favor and check out the Whirley Pop.

I put 2 tablespoons of kernels in a brown paper bag and microwave for a couple minutes. Simple and popcorn comes out fine.

1,000 percent. I got all the poppers because I love popcorn. Air pop make the popcorn taste like sweat, microwave is amazing but inconsistently pops kernels (or ends up burning tons), and whirly pop is ALWAYS PERFECT and tastes crunchy, nutty, and perfectly crunchy.
The only downside is cleaning it is a bit more work.

What do you use to keep the bag closed?

It's not a good machine. I bought it before a month and it doesn't pop lot of kernels, sometimes more than 50-75% are not popped. Sometimes the same amount of kernels pop more, sometimes too less. Returned it. not worth the time spent in iterations.

With you mentioning "covered with butter ever since", I'm wondering if you (or someone else) somehow mistakenly disregarded safeguard 7: "Never put oil or butter into the popping chamber" as that would surely lead to smoke alarm triggering and corrosion. Misread?

This is what I use, barely any unpopped kernels and never over cooked.

The only thing I miss about microwave popcorn is the completely even coating of butter added to it. Was thinking maybe getting a glass food grade spray bottle to warm up butter then spray on the popcorn, but tbh it's good enough with just salt and garlic powder that I haven't really looked into it that hard (plus less calories)

Winona Pure Popcorn Butter Spray Oil - Delicious Popcorn Seasoning, 0 Calories per Serving, Movie Theater Style, Perfect for Popcorn Lovers - Butter Flavor - 5 oz (3 Pack) https://a.co/d/8MxcGHo

This stuff, which is canola oil with "natural butter flavor" added, is pretty darn good. Otherwise, we typically warm up a little ghee (clarified butter, they sell in a jar) to pour over the popcorn while it's still warm (just popped).

I have one but a different brand/version. LOVE IT. Air popped popcorn with olive oil and sea salt, I like it more than butter, definitely my favorite healthy snack. One does need an olive oil sprayer as well though.

Find a coconut oil spray. It tastes like butter but lighter

I have an air popper and a stovetop popper and they never get used.

Our silicone popcorn bowl for the microwave however gets used most days...sometimes multiple times a day.

You could always staple it closed, if you have a stapler.

Good catch. Guilty on all counts. In my defense, I just tried the recipe in the booklet that comes with it. The recipe literally says to add butter for the "movie theater style" and the only way to add is to dump some inside while running. The taste is awesome and doesn't burn the oil (except it smokes and disperses into the air) but coats the inside and cover with butter.

I bought 2 of these from Costco had to return them both. Neither would pop the corn. Buyer Beware!
