Reminder that refurb units (at least from epson, would assume also those sold by approved retailers which wally world *should* be, if you are concerned, add the four year coverage for an additional $77 on this deal) still have a 2-year warranty. However, I would recommend the 3800 instead of this as it is HDMI 2.0 instead of 1.4 if you're going to game with HDR on the projector. (The only Epson pjs to do HDMI 2.1 so far are the lasers)

3000 lumens is the sweet spot for outdoor use imo. this is damn tempting to replace my 1080p home cinema 1060.

As long as you're ok with 1.4 (slight amount of non future proofing with streaming hardware/HDR issues) and are only using it for movies/TV then this (especially with the 4 yr extended warranty) should serve you for quite awhile. The only other slight neg about this pj (vs the 3800) is the lamp is $330 vs $99 for the 3800 one. For me the big thing is HDMI version before I got to lamp pricing (my PJ is my main TV)

Just going to throw this out there: I have a 1080p Benq w1070 dlp projector. Thought it was time to move up and got an epson 3800. I cannot explain to you my level of disappointment. It was not bad…but no better than the 1070 in terms of detail and resolution. Shoulda been, but wasn't (at least not perceptible). Colors were ok but…way worse than my 1070. I don't have issues with rainbows, so dip fine for me. Just here to tell you *my* experience. All the rave reviews for the 3800…and it was just meh (setup was great though, excellent lens shift and awesome menus and remote). And yes, I tried lots of different settings and different gain surfaces. My point is if you already have a projector, it may not be the leap you're hoping for. And if you don't have a projector and are thinking about it, make sure you don't think for a second that a "4k" projector is going to have any where close to the pop of your $300 4k tv…it's all about size/Immersion.

I have benq 1070 10 yrs old and still rocking. I tried viewsonic and sent it back due bad blacks. I am wanting to try newer and check whether any beats my 1070 but based on your comment, it's wasted effort to try anything new.

Needing a projector for an indoor space with tons of natural light (8 skylights and about 20 other windows). The room is 41x27. Projector distance to the wall is about 35 ft. What should I be getting for a projector and screen size?

Blackout curtains and automated shades for your skylights, to start. That's a huge room, so you're potentially going to be projecting from a distance, working even more against brightness. You'll have a hard time finding something with usable blacks shy of $3-5k, I think. You can dick around with a cheap projector, but I don't think you'll be happy with the results.
