At least with Apple refurbs, you get a new battery. My wife has a Best Buy "geek squad" refurb Apple Watch and it dies before lunch. 80% battery health.
But the last two orders that I made in the past month, both came very much scuffed up and very much "used". I was very much disappointed and initiated a return on one of the order. The customer service was very friendly and didn't make any fuss about processing the return and sent me a return label right away.
My recent order also came a bit scuffed up. I am a bit hesitant initiate another return in a month.
Edit: I ordered both apple (3 iPads and one iPad keyboard) and non-apple (Sony, Anker) products from them

I bought it from a seller with lots of good reviews. I hope the watches don't get blacklisted though.
I see sellers with good reviews who are obviously selling shady stuff. Apple Watches and phones that are only a couple of weeks old but they decided to sell because they just don't use it. That's fine once, but they keep listing new watches and phones. There is some kind of fraud involved.
In addition, I also learned that when you send your watch to Apple for a battery replacement, they just send you a new or refurbished replacement watch rather than actually replacing the battery in the watch that you sent them. This is why in some regions they will only provide the "battery replacement" service if the battery health is below 80%. Though apparently in California they are legally required to provide the service regardless of the battery health if the customer requests it (and is willing to pay for it).
And further to my concern, Apple has stated that the "battery replacement" service will not affect the water resistance rating. As of today, Apple is still providing the battery replacement service all the way back to the Series 2 (which was released over 7 years ago). So in 5 years or so if the battery life becomes unacceptable I can send it in and get a replacement. Sounds good to me.
I have been debating these last few days whether to order another watch in the hopes of getting one with more factory warranty remaining. I was already leaning towards not doing so, and the information above has solidified my decision. While obsessive me would've loved to have received a watch with 11 months of factory warranty remaining, the one they sent me is absolutely flawless - I cannot not find a single scratch or wear mark on the screen or case. And the watch was never advertised as having any factory warranty remaining in the first place so I cannot in good conscience return the one that I got. A4C has held up their end of the bargain and I will do the same.

I had an iPhone 13 Pro Max that started acting weird a couple of months after I bought it brand new from Apple. Took it to the store and they replaced it for free because it had the 1 year warranty. If for some reason your watch stops working, then you'll be out of luck. When I called a4c to return the watch, the lady sent me a label, no questions asked. So instead of having this thought at the back of your mind, just return it and hope your next order has a longer warranty.
I got the series 9 for Christmas which I can return before January 31st.
Was on the fence but I saw someone with this on yesterday and really liked the look of it.
Hopefully I'll get one in pristine condition with some AppleCare time left!
Update: Received watch today. Perfect condition. 100% battery health, warranty through 12/24, 20 days left to add AppleCare

Picked up the watch from BB - no scratches and although it has clearly been opened and tried on, it hadn't been registered, so I got a full year's warranty. Huge difference from the one in "Fair" condition I had found for barely a discount ($550ish) at the Eden Prairie, MN outlet. That thing was already out of warranty and looked like it had been through a few rounds with the washing machine.
Thinking of getting the wife one.
