These don't go on mega sale too much, I don't think I've seen a quality forged Chinese chef's knife at or lower than 100 dollars, so this is pretty good. New users can signup for 15 percent off at C&M, it will stack with Enso sale prices. Yaxell/Enso are widely regarding as the best value/priceformance in production line knives, but not strictly the greatest japanese knives on earth, although they're not far off EEK!

ETA: The enso chinese is 10 dollars cheaper than the previous "sale" price, which was store flagged "clearance" or "other" and not "sale", so the 15 percent discount couldn't apply then, so it's on sale now 140 not 150, and plus you can save another 15 percent by signing up for email list new user.

I don't see how this is much of a deal, seeing as Amazon has these exact prices seemingly every day +5% off for Prime members. If the 15% applies, yes it will be an additional 10% off.

I have the 8" kiritsuke, my wife also got me the 5.5" prep knife which looks just like it but smaller and that's the knife I use every day when cooking.

any recommendation for a Nakiri under $130? I am not familiar with Japanese knives and which brand is better (balance, sharp and longer lasting)

My advice, don't take advice from SD members on Japanese knives. Go on Reddit. Enso and Yaxell are ok, and probably better than most people's knives at home, but you can get better knives for the price. If you don't care about getting the most bang for your buck, go for it. (And no, a hammered texture won't improve food release, though it does look good.)

Interested to know more about the food release part. What style knife releases better? Dimpled? Damascus? I use Nakiri and Chinese vegie cleaver. Food like radish sticking to blade can be very annoying.
