I think we have the older version of this (the sides are black and not shiny like this) for a few years now and we use it everyday. It's fast and makes good cup of espresso. And it's compact enough it doesn't take up a lot of space, we even take it on vacation to make coffee in the hotel room.

2 issues we had so far, one is after a couple of years it started to drip when it's at the On position. 2nd is it would get stuck once in a while (nothing comes out of the nozzle or very slow), we found out that there is a little spring in the mechanism (hard to explain here) needs to be cleaned and stretched (found that solution on YT). Otherwise it's been great for our use.

Uhhhh you don't know what you're talking about lol

De'Longhi isn't a no name Chinese brand. It's a well known and popular Italian brand.

Do you have a link for the video? Or a general idea on how to find it? My machine has a similar issue, I though it was because I left it on for a couple of hours by mistake and maybe some internal seal had loosen

Had this exact espresso machine. It works REALLY well. Great crema extraction. Only reason I no longer have it because I no longer enjoy espresso.

Can anyone help explain the difference between this model, and the one posted here?

Thanks.

Just know it doesn't matter what espresso maker you buy if you don't have a $600 well chosen grinder first. You simply need to understand that the grinder is far more important than the espresso machine. If you can't accept this or simply disagree you already failed. A slick dealer type person might pull off getting a decent grinder for 300 bucks or so. But it's not going to be like buying other things it will be hard mode getting a good grinder for 300 bucks. I have a $200 sette30. I thought it was well Choosen and would be enough. I can get a good espresso out of it but I have to do all kinds of tricks like Dial in between notches. If anything else it's wasteful of coffee because it takes more times to dial in. Dial in means to get the exact size granules so the pour through the espresso machine work well.

It will take a little effort reading about coffee if you don't want to waste money.

I'd heard the same about the grinder, but didn't remember to give it any thought until your comment here, and appreciate it. What is the grinder that you're not super happy with? I was just reading reviews on a few and saw positive comments on Baratza.

Anyone have any feedback on whether it's better to buy an espresso machine like a Breville Barista with an integrated grinder vs separate units, i.e. an espresso machine like this with a higher end grinder on the side?

This is a good price. I bought one of these years ago and the frother would leak constantly. Started 1 month out of warranty of course. The low price is enticing though.

Is a milk frother the same as a milk steamer? I know words would indicate not but then you have marketing too!

Long time owner of 2 of these. I believe I paid around $110 for each of them in the last 6 years or so, so price isn't great compared to what they were, however it is still a good bang for the buck. If you are just getting into espresso, this machine will serve you very well. It is fantastic for an entry machine to get you the basics with a pressurized portafilter using store bought pre ground espresso (I prefer Illy Intenso) with little or no fuss. Bear in mind, this is a manual machine so you control how long your extraction is. It is not timed for you.

The crema this machine produces is actually quite good using the pressurized basket at 15 bars of pressure. If you start with this then move on to higher end 9 bar machines with non-pressurized baskets you should be able to learn some of the basics before getting into grinding.

If you are not a coffee nerd, this is still a great machine to get you great tasting coffee as long as you tamp properly.

PSA don't use Starbucks "espresso" in this. It is not espresso grind and will not work.

Might want to check FB Marketplace if you are fine with a used one esp if you just want to try making espresso. They are going like $40. Sell it back same price or higher when you get tired with the mess for every single shot.
The cleanup is not that bad. Just a hit or two on a knock box (or side of a kitchen garbage bin) and it's clear. If that's too much work for the cost savings and wide coffee selection, you can buy Easy Serve Espresso pods (ESE pods) for easy cleanup. Unfortunately, ESE's are getting more difficult to find in the US.

This plus a solid hand grinder like a 1zpeesso would make a great intro to espresso. You could start there and see if this is something you want to pursue further. If not, you'd be making reasonably good shots of espresso in the meantime.
