I am a weekend warrior. My HF blades are fine. I will say having a long wood blade is enticing. My HF set comes with a tiny wood blade so you can only do about 4 inches of wood after the rest is taken up with the guard.

Only 4 inches. Story of my life.

On a serious note, I find using blades that are too long causes a lot of flopping/vibration due to the excess blade being free.
