These are garbage ice makers. I see a boatload of them selling at Nellis Auction [nellisauction.com]here in AZ all the time. They get dirty quickly and stop making ice. Avoid at all costs.

You can clean frequently and use RO water. It doesn't matter. The thing is a piece of crap.

We bought through Costco and returned 3 times before giving up.

These are amazing, especially if you're a cocktail enthusiast. I've had mine no issues for 2 years.

We're always running out of ice in our fridge when we have guests and I've been wanting one of these for years. By the way the black one is $433.95

You have to check every day as they list 10k items between the Phoenix & Mesa locations. They also have locations in Vegas and Houston.

Was great for the 2 weeks that it worked before we returned it to Costco. Caveat emptor.

I was an early 1stBuild adopter when they went to kickstarter for funding… then Opal before GE bought them out…

I have our first GE 1.0 finally go out AFTER 6-7years of usage. We always used bottled (arrowhead delivery) water and cleaned every couple months. Over the years it progressively got louder and would gunk up as many have stated. These are definitely not without problems, but that being said, they are still the best option in a very small/tight market.

Our current GE 2.0 is running without issue but I am very conscious of its potential at failing. Stick to scheduled maintenance and use clean water (bottled/distilled) and you "should" be relatively trouble free. I would highly recommend an aftermarket warranty or purchasing through Costco for peace of mind.

I actually bought the 1.0 from Walmart for $345 last week for work and spent the $34 for the 3 yr warranty

I've had the original Opal for 6 years and it's still working great. Regular maintenance goes a long way.
