For reference, the dimensions of the 2-bay 218+ are 165 x 108 x 232.2 mm whereas the dimensions of the DS620slim are 121 x 151 x 175 mm. In standard units that puts the DS620slim at only a couple inches shorter and shallower for also being a couple inches wider. This might not seem like much unless you also consider the dimensions of even the most basic 4-bay NAS like the DS423 at 184 mm x 168 mm x 230 mm (whose lesser CPU loses some of the feature set possible with the 620slim).
Unfortunately the implementation of the DS620slim (and in particular it's dependence upon 2.5" drives) makes the design of the DS620slim of particular interest to a narrow group of potential users.
Those seeking a basic Synology NAS may well be better off with a 2-bay unit. Those with particularly large storage needs may do better even with the most basic multi-bay Synology model.
Good luck!
Jon

I had never seen this model in my research before, though it has an intel processor it's only a dual core as opposed to a quad core on the models above. I don't know how to compare them for 4k transcoding, but keep that in mind.
Maybe someone with experience on this can chime in on how capable it is for the task.

I need a NAS. Have been debating whether to buy one of these nice ready to go systems or use an old PC to build one. Anyone with ideas feel free to weigh in.
This uses a 2016 CPU; the DS423+ is a 2019 CPU.
