Seems like pretty good deal considering FHD IPS.

Bad, those are all efficiency cores. They are not designed for heavy lifting at all. This is not to say they're bad, just not what you're looking for. The IGPU would be less then terrible.

HP Laptop 17-cn3034wm (8R077UA) User Guide, Maintenance and Service Guide
https://support.hp.com/us-en/prod...ku=8R077UA

Unfortunately, HP provides a generic manual for multiple laptop models with the usual disclaimers. Without a serial number, there is always a possibility some information contained in the manuals doesn't apply to a specific model or configuration. That being said, look at the Maintenance and Service Guide beginning on PDF page 40 (document page 34). Draw your own conclusions.

FYI, a search on HP PartSurfer for 17-cn3034wm (8R077UA) indicates an 8GB memory module can be ordered for this model.

Intel iGPU and gaming...just say no.

If you look at the Recommended System Requirements in the link below, Epic suggests 16GB RAM and a dedicated GPU. This computer has neither.

https://www.epicgames.com/help/en...0377103003

This computer arguably satisfies the Minimum System Requirements detailed in the above link. Keep in mind Minimum System Requirements is first and foremost designed with potential market in mind; however, while you *might* be able to get Fortnite to run -- perhaps at (very) reduced settings -- it probably would not be a good experience. Certainly not the way the developer intended for the game to be enjoyed.

Thanks. Interesting. Manual says the memory is not user accessible. But there's no mention of the memory being soldered. I've seen laptops where the ports were missing for specific models.

Thank you for the reply. Trying to find a budget rig around $500. Picked up a Victus from a previous deal and added RAM for 32GB total and came in under $500. Need two more though. Should have pulled the trigger then.

Sounds like you got a great deal on the Victus. Will lightning will strike twice?

I don't play Fortnite, so grain of salt on anything I say specifically about the game. That being said, I'm a long-time gamer going back to the days of Sublogic's Flight Simulator. Never had the best PC hardware, and at times not even close, lol. I learned to tweak things and reduce the eye candy on many occasions when the game wasn't playable on max settings.

It's probably going to be a challenge to find a decent gaming laptop with a dedicated GPU for ~$500. So if you can find one with a Radeon 680M integrated GPU for ~$500, take a good look at it. The 680M is the previous generation (RDNA 2) iGPU from AMD; it has been replaced by the 780M (RDNA 3) in some Zen 4 mobile CPUs but there isn't that much of a change. Laptops with a 780M will likely be higher priced than your proposed budget. I just bought a HP EliteBook 845 G10 with a Ryzen 7 7840U CPU and Radeon 780M GPU for @$1K (including a travel charger so I could take advantage of the Amex promo).

Hopefully SD members can find a great deal for you that fits your budget.

Another great reply. Thank you again for your time and information! Here is the thread for the Victus for reference. https://slickdeals.net/f/17069647-hp-victus-laptop-15-6-fhd-144hz-ryzen-5-7535hs-rtx-2050-8gb-ram-512gb-ssd-450-free-shipping I purchased 32gb of crucial, 16gbx2 from Amazon for $72, so I came in a little over $500. It is a nice machine though.

You're welcome. Very nice pickup and a great move to upgrade RAM to 2 x 16GB. I was going to ask you if you had used an Amex promo, R*k*t*n cash back, refurbished pricing, and/or a previous generation GPU to get to the ~$500 price. Ryzen 7535HS has the Radeon 660M iGPU so when not gaming, you could switch to integrated graphics and help out battery life if needed.

If I had to guess, I think RAM is upgradeable by the user in this laptop. From a saving space perspective, I can't think of a reason to solder all RAM on a motherboard going into a 17" laptop. Plenty of room for at least 1 memory slot, typically 2 (and a few with 4). Worst case for a 17" laptop -- part soldered RAM for cost & time savings (say, 8GB) and a slot for a SODIMM so additional RAM configurations can be offered. But I'm only speculating.

Now if the laptop case is sealed and can't be opened by the user, that's a different issue.
