Wait for Blackwell (50-Series). Unless you jump to a 4090, it's not worth it performance wise from a 3080.

Pay the extra 100, get 7900 xtx with 24 gb of vram. No regrets. Card handles anything. Don't pay the nvidia tax. It's not worth it

We don't know the price of 4080 Super, it may end up with same 4080 msrp $1199 and 4080 move down a tier. Or it could be $999 if nvidia accept 4080's lukewarm sales. Even if 4080 Super end up $999, it only has 5% more cuda cores so performance difference with 4080 still negligible and 4070 Ti super has 10% less cuda cores to begin with. so either way, 4080 for $899 still a decent price consider it's rivals are 7900XT for $800 and 7800XTX around $900, and for the last year, DLSS 3 frame generation did prove it's worthiness in new games.
4080 Super will probably be at $1000 to compete with the 7900 XTX. That's the whole reason why they even came up with the Super, it would be counter intuitive to release it at the same $1200 price as the worst selling card of this generation from either team red or green to date.

The 4080 will fade out of existence once a cheaper and faster 4080 Super releases. At $899 it's probably worth a buy, something you can enjoy now but there's definitely something to look forward to in January, either further discounts or new hardware.

I am using Asus ROG strix 3080 non-lhr version in my rig. Will this be a good step-up or should I wait for the RTX 50 series?

Got this 2 days ago at full price. Any chance I could buy GameStop pro and ask for a refund of the difference?

7900xtx is 24% faster FYI. That's a lot. And it's the same price.
The 7900xtx is faster but I overall prefer my 4080. Had both for a while.
Started with the 7900xtx to play cod.

The 4080 is just a better rounded product overall but the mrsp price is stupid..

I play at mostly at 4k single player game now

So tempting to get this to use up the last of my GS gift cards (~$150) that I can't seem to spend on anything worthwhile. But if I do, then I would have to sell the GPU that I don't know if I can let go of. The last swan song of an amazing era...the EVGA 3090TI Hybrid. It's sentimental to me bc of the whole EVGA/Nvidia debacle. But I bet I could sell it for way more than what I buy this for (after my gift card balance is applied that I consider useless/free money) and end up with slightly better performance (I don't see any sacrifices on paper except VRAM). Is there any reason I shouldn't?

Decisions...

are there other aspects that are compelling for blackwell besides more ai and RT and tensor cores?

whats the speculative feature set that they are wanting to wait until end of 2024 after frame gen?

The 4080 is out of stock. And cannot get myself to buy the 4070 Ti due to the 12GB VRAM. If I build a new system, it'll be set for the next 7+yrs or something. And the way newer games want more VRAM, I'm sure 12GB will show its age after even 3-4 yrs. At these prices I might as well spend $750 on a 7900 XT than $670 on a 4070Ti. Yes, the performance is mostly similar and 4070 Ti has better RT and upscaling, but considering the length of time I'll use this system, I need to heavily consider what the potential performance gap will be after 4-5 yrs or so.

Games with Unreal 5 have just started coming out, and it generally has heavier requirements than Unreal 4. I'm sure developers will push limits on VRAM requirement as years go by. My guess is that the 20GB VRAM on 7900XT will age much better than the 12GB on 4070Ti. At least for me, no point getting the 4070Ti even though it's cheaper than 7900XT with this sale.

4070 ti is a bit better than 3090. And 4080 is 25% faster. Both have newer frame generation cores and use lees power. It's still up to you if you want to spend money, lol. I doubt 3080 is struggling on any game now.
