I just purchased an ocean band and love it…except when I am working on a laptop.
For me, the choice of bands is very important. It's $ 100 extra to order another band. Costco still has a nice choice including the orange ocean band.
My dilemma. AppleCare or not?
I have Apple Watches from the original gen 1. Never an issue. AppleCare on this is more than I expected, at $ 99. We had AppleCare replace my wife's 39 month old Apple Hermes with a brand new one ( same series). It was an outlier situation. The battery dropped to 79% at 39 months. We were on extended monthly Apple Care. For whatever reason, Apple doesn't replace batteries on the Hermes, they replace the watch. Something about damaging the case. My added cost would be $ 99 plus either $ 4.99 or $ 5.99 a month after the original AppleCare ends.
In my wife's case, even the replacement is AppleCare eligible, so for $ 60 year she can have her treasured Hermes indefinitely.
You want AppleCare. While the sapphire crystal screens are rugged, they will still shatter with enough force (think dropping face down on a hard surface or toddler pulling off charger and throwing). Because of complexities with how the cases are sealed for the waterproofing, almost no 3rd parties will fix a screen, which leaves you with an extremely expensive repair through Apple. It is insurance and when evaluating, it is helpful to think of it in ratios.
Below is a breakdown with a few of many configurations, but you get the idea. (Note I am basing on upfront AppleCare vs subscription) Like any insurance, if you never you use it, it was money wasted (or bought peace of mind), but if you have a single break the tables quickly turn in your favor, have two breaks and it's a complete no brainer.
I do not put AppleCare on all my gear, but for the watches it has saved me hundreds and hundreds in my household.

By the way, watch is a $17B a year market for Apple, despite what may be a temporary ban from direct sales, it would seem unimaginable that it last long, regardless the path to resolution.

And the Ultra watch isn't $10k
Me! That's my primary use for the watch. I really want an ultra 2 but I just haven't found much price point yet.
The audacity of Apple to treat the little guy that way, smh. I am now hearing that Google and others have done it too, they should be ashamed of themselves.
