I think I have a G5220 with a broken string. What's a good replacement strings?

Still no good deals for left handed guitars :/
This looks like discrimination.
I'm left handed and learned guitar right handed as a kid because lefty guitars were too hard to find used. It's tough for lefty players to get deals

Does the jr. in the title mean that this would be a good guitar for my son to learn on?

How old is your son?

This guitar has a full-size neck, just the body is smaller. The guitar is semi-hollow, which makes it feel less sturdy tbh. If you think your son might drop the guitar, I'd recommend getting a solidbody with a bolt-on neck.

Think Stratocaster or telecaster

It's still a full size guitar (the size of a strat or a Tele). In the world of hollow and semi-hollow bodies, it's considered small. Personally, It would be large for anyone under 12-13ish. I started on a regular size strat when I was 14.

Man, I'm a sucker for a Gretsch, but I've never owned one. Also a semi-hollow fan. That midnight sapphire is gorgeous, too. And one of my twin boys' favorite color is blue. So the excuses to buy it just kept building til I pulled the trigger. Smilie Youtube demos look great for this one, too.

Adorama seems to have some great deals pretty often. Here's hoping my purchase gets me on the deal email list, but also keeps my "add to cart" finger as well rested as possible.

It's a jr. So it's not the big full size. The full size ones are pretty large and fat.
Yes, the fact that it's more svelt makes it more tempting for me as well.

I bought the slightly-larger 2622 from the previous deal. It's a very nice guitar with great finish for the money, and plays well aside from some issues staying in tune after bends (likely the nut/saddles need a little graphite).

However the ergonomics of this whole series are probably not ideal for a child or smaller person. The body is pretty bulky and the neck is fairly thick, about 1/4" wider than that of a stratocaster/telecaster. That said, they're very light.

I'm a lefty, learned to play the violin like a right-handed person, and am now learning the guitar. I honestly feel like being a lefty playing a right-handed instrument is an advantage if it's a stringed instrument. In my mind the hardest thing is getting the note placement right. After having learned with my left hand, I cannot imagine how much more difficult it would be to use your non-dominant hand for that.

Sort of related, but also unrelated side note: while I don't recommend left-handed stringed instruments, I do recommend left-handed scissors. I didn't learn that right-handed people can actually see what they are cutting until I got a legit pair of left-handed scissors. I spent over thirty years of my life thinking I just sucked at cutting things in general.

You're so right about the scissors. My sister has some left handed scissors. I thought they were broken when I used them Smilie

Though I'm right handed, I have to agree. It's not like playing guitar is a natural thing for the hands to do. It takes a lot of work and muscle memory. I don't think it would be much different than if they made left handed pianos with the low notes on the right. Just not really necessary.
Lefty that plays righty here.

But as a teacher I've also seen decades of students - the strumming hand is FAR more important and this is more natural to develop with the dominant hand. While Left hand guitars are annoying - the reality is those that are taught rhythm with the dominant hand tend to progress better in the areas that matter.

It is a much better financial proposition to learn righty though and makes picking up any guitar to simply play it a much more rewarding life.

As a lefty who was "forced" to learn on a right handed guitar. I wonder if I'd be less shit of a player if I got a left handed guitar years ago. As I always say, "It's hard to be left in the right man's world."

Rightys are always telling leftys to not try and do what comes most naturally. Left handed guitars are not THAT hard to find. Play the way which is most natural and comfortable to you and don't listen to the nonsense. You can flip righty guitars or play them upside down as well.
