I was able to get it done. You have to call in to cancel your current account. The cancellation order takes less an hour to finalize. Once it's cancelled, your address will be eligible to sign up for a new account. You can use the same name and SSN, just create a new FiOS online account after you place your order.

Actual disconnection came in less than 5 minutes after my call with support ended. But the cancellation order was still shown as pending for around an hour I think? Once the cancellation order went through, FiOS released the address to be eligible for new service again. You just have to wait a little before you can sign up again. Otherwise, even if you select you're signing up for a second service, their system will block your new order as there's another order (cancellation) pending.

I'd say you can get the new service activated in about 40 minutes from the moment you hang up your phone with phone support for cancellation.

My current fios billing date is the 18th of the month and was told they don't prorate for cancellations so if I cancel/re-sign up I am forfeiting $89 worth of service no?

I am finally back online...here how it went down for me.

Last night I cancelled our service at 8pm. Throughout the night, I kept trying to register as my partner for a new account. It didn't work because of the pending order (our cancellation) and we couldn't contact CS since it was afterhours. Finally in the morning, we reached a rep but she couldn't find figure out why. She said to wait 24 hours and try placing the order. I called again and another rep was able to see that my pending cancellation was stuck and she would have it push it through. That call took over an hour but it was finally done.

While we were able to sign up, we weren't getting he mobile discount and found out via chat is because we weren't the primary account holder for our Verizon mobile. It was a shared family plan so at this point we just signed up for the 1gig with all the additional below.

• MoCA Ethernet Adapter.
• $50 Xbox eGift Card.

So I ordered new service under a separate name and got an installation date. I called in and canceled my current account with the same termination date as the other account's installation date.

Is this the right way to do it? Will there be issues?

Nope its 6 months actually.

Will be interested to see what happens when everyone tries to downgrade their service. I am hoping they can get me back to my original plan of at least 500mbps for $65.

I am going to check if I can stack with a CB site and also, I will probably sell my Xbox or gift someone.

Optimum 300mbps is $44 and Verizon is $49. That is the only thing I am thinking about in the down the line.
