UPDATE: The call center rep did some research and called me back. She said the promo was in an older system they don't really use, but she was able to apply it.
For my understanding, if this works, will I get an extra line on the same plan I currently have? So say if I have essentials, would I get a new line with the same 50g 5g, unlimited txt unlimited calls?

That's what the rep told me. I thought it was "just" a voice line, but she said it includes everything the rest of my lines have.
I was able to get mine ! I called 611 the rep told me I'm not eligible. So I jumped on the T-Mobile app and chatted with them . They said the promos not on my account and that they would add the promo and it would take 24 hours but the rep said they asked their supervisor and they approved them to process it right away. After a while they were able to add the free line and didn't charge me a $35 activation . They are also sending me a physical sim after they activated a esim. Took some time but worth the wait . Just be super nice to the reps .

good luck with it... hope no headaches with you... unless the promo code attached to your account once line activated.
Thanks for being on hold xxxxx, I went ahead and checked your account and glad to know that you have received BYOD promo notification since very few customer got that however as of now the account is not updated with that offer in this case I am updating a detailed note on your account so that team could update the offer on your account please be rest assured once it will get added you will get notification for the same.
You will receive notification via text or email.
Please be rest assured you will receive it or you can also check back again with us for free line offer.
Being on Magenta isn't an indication that you're likely eligible for the free line; read the link on the first post and have a rep check if your accounts "segments" page. To switch a paid line onto the free line, I believe the steps are for you to (a) get the free line, (b) wait 1 year, (c) port out your paid line number to some other carrier, and (d) port that number back onto the free line. Historically, free line offers required a minimum of 2 paid lines; not sure if this has changed with the recent free line offers.
After I port out , should I wait for certain period before porting back on to free line?
On the phone with CS and they said my Simple Choice is eligible. The line is totally free and they will credit the $35 activation as well.
Yeah I tried multiple CS rep and chat. All said my account is ineligible nor can they add the promo to my account as it's been happening with others. Bummer.
that never ends well. they don't have to honor what an employee says. there are a lot of dumb employees who have no clue what they are talking about and spit out incorrect information.
I second that. A lot of these employees are outsourced. End up overpromising but under-delivering.
I advise anyone who had an overseas rep "add" this promo/free line, even though not qualified, to not use the line as a precaution so that you can NOINSTALL later on if there is an issue.
This will preserve any older free lines that have a 1 year no cancellation stipulation.

Agreed 110%! I recommend calling during 8am-5pm to guarantee a US based rep. Outsourced reps have almost always been wrong and never follow through such as never giving a follow up call.
