Phone should work fine on existing account with existing sim. No need to activate new account unless you want to use as a spare or maybe can sell sim and prepaid service for 2 months to recover some cost.

Can I do like the old days where I port in a new line to existing account and then don't activate it and the credit will stay on the account?

Nice idea but I just read the T&C and it says: Requires new line & new account. Excludes upgrades. Pay first two months of $60/mo. plan service ($120 total) at point of sale, plus device taxes.

Yeah that sux but of course they closed that loophole

It's such a waste of 120 bucks for me when I don't need the service

How do you get the $30 plan? Do you just switch to it after purchasing the $60 plan?

Just look at it as you're getting the phone for $220 plus the cost of a new tello number for porting ($6?). Is that a slickdeal?

Not only active service but active service on that phone in case anyone was under the impression they could use the sim in another phone and still get it unlocked after 6 months.

Yes and if you sign up for autopay you get an additional $5 off every month. So, you only have to pay for 1 additional month of $30 + $5 to get the phone unlocked. But, the line must stay active on the phone for those 6 months.
