Opinion: directors cut of alien 3 is a solid entry an would have been a dark, worthy, end to the franchise.

FYI most of these are currently available in 4K. I know Aliens was just released in 4k a week ago. Alien 3 is not in 4k yet.

If you're asking about the Extended (Director's Cut or Special Edition) versions that appear in iTunes extras or MA extras: Alien already has 4K currently, Aliens is HD currently. I'm not certain if Aliens SE will get auto-upgraded in the future when that is available in 4K. I don't know how the Extras menu gets handled. It's kind of a mute point for Vudu though as it does not have those extras, I only see Vudu getting the Theatrical version (which is 4K).

For these movies: Alien, Aliens, Prometheus, and Alien Covenant, redeeming now in iTunes will get you 4K in Vudu (as long as Vudu and iTunes are connected to MA). The remaining two movies Alien 3 and Resurrection do not have 4K digital on any platform currently. If you also redeem those in iTunes now, you get HD across the board. If 4K becomes available for those two in the future Apple will upgrade the iTunes version to 4K. Only your iTunes account benefit from that upgrade then as the MA/Vudu remains in HD.

I loved all the Alien movies. I thought it was especially interesting the ones that reminded me of Star Trek: TNG with Data & Lore.

To answer all the questions about the digital copies of the Alien films, they still work. You will either redeem them at FoxRedeem.com and if that doesn't work, you can redeem them at Movies Anywhere. They all redeem in HD / 1080p.

In short, all the verbiage in the packaging is outdated but the codes still work.

The 4k version of Aliens that was just released was analyzed by some folks on Reddit and it turns out to be only an upscaling of the blueray. The original 35mm film was NOT rescanned to 4k.

No movie that kills Newt and Hicks offscreen right after Aliens should be accepted as worthy of the name "Alien 3".
