FYI most of these are currently available in 4K. I know Aliens was just released in 4k a week ago. Alien 3 is not in 4k yet.

Typical hollywood. Remember they released Back to The Future letterbox and turns out it was just cropped image not original letterbox, then universal had to mail people corrected copies. Did they think people wouldn't notice?

So, since the 4K release is like HD picture quality taken with a better camera, it won't make any difference, we might as well let our TV's upscale it to 4k, might even do a better job, right?
Just to confirm all 6 films are MA, right?

What happens? In the theatrical version Ripley dies anyway in the molten steel with the alien too.

MA? (not sure about the quality of other films in this set myself)
Anyway personally, I'd always check for a review from someone you know understands the sources, processes used, and how to critically compare them (at least better than I could).. the redditors agree as it's cited in the comments-- the Digital Bits has a review of the 4k release of Aliens. It does seem the source is suspected to be an upscaled 2k, and the way it has been 'cleaned up' is not to everyone's taste.. but some people will likely still prefer it over earlier releases.

It's just a film that had real potential (like just check out those sets and establishing shots), but was demolished in editing by the producers/studio.. To the point that some of the cut content is lost forever. A quick search you can find comprehensive lists of cut shots/scenes that were either never fully shot, got scrapped midway, or were cut in editing/post

Yeah, it's challenging film like that. And that's an understandable one lol For me it was how many of the men get rapey that turned me away when I was younger. Interestingly, iirc, in the original script it was supposed to be a cloister of monks, not a prison colony.

There's continuity errors in the theatrical. For example the prisoners actually had the alien cornered and the crazy prisoner let him out. Other things like character moments that unify why any of these psychopathic life prisoners would really band together for any sort of reason. It's just a far better movie overall and Ripley is spared the indignity of having her chest exploded and she simply dies on her own terms and jumps into the fire.

Yeah but the digital 4K release of Aliens is down-right terrible. Complete scrubbed of film grain. Better to get/watch the 1080 Blu-ray version that comes in this set.

Is film grain a good thing? Anyway, it could be worse, they could have added a bunch of CGI shit like they did with Star Wars. I still have my Star Wars DVDs because the CGI was so bad.

When it's the physical element used to capture the original image from a camera lens, absolutely. It's literally the optical and physical texture crystals used to capture the image. Erase it, and you're erasing parts of original image capture from the camera lens.

And in the case of the streaming Aliens 4K, it just looks like shit when the film grain is gone. I just watched it tonight. Horrid.
