I am interested in these since gamer jesus published benchmarks for CS2. Non 3D variants are just a little behind the 3D ones without the expensive 3D cache tax, can find cheap mobo ($70 for b450 or $80) and use ddr4 (again, cheap or you may already have). 5600x was already $140 at microcenter and was $120 around BF too. 5700x has 2 more cores, better for productivity but has slower boost so lower single core performance. Not tested by jesus, but may perform slightly worse in CS2 since it is very dependent on that single core provided there are enough cores. In general, it is still a very good cpu for gaming and very competitive price point. Gotta love competition 🥂

I know this is a long shot, but could anyone recommend a cheap gaming build using this? I've been looking for something my son can play World of Warships on, but all the prebuilt deals seem to be old technology for a lot of money still ☹️

There's this deal for a mobo+ram+case for $189. Mobo is $110 and ram is like $63 atm on Newegg so you're getting the case for free 🤷 ♂️

if i were you, save some money and on a budget, get the ryzen 5600. for gaming, it performs close to the ryzen 5700x. last year i was able to get it for $100, prices has gotten close to that recently.

Am I correct in thinking Gamer Jesus is Steve from GamersNexus?

Got mine in, put in a b450 board without issue. Replaced a ryzen 1600

Running -30 all core curve optimizer with +200 core clock.

Seeing 4850mhz in game.

This is technically old technology as well. This chip fits in an AM4 socket that is getting phased out by AM5. With AM5, the AMD CPU's fit differently into the socket than previous generations.

If you ever plan to upgrade the CPU in a system built with this CPU, then you will be stuck with AM4 chips only as an upgrade path. The good news is that the there will be discounts on the chips that will fit in this socket, so you will be able to upgrade to more powerful AM4 options as long as they are still on the market.

The bad news is that if you ever want to upgrade to an AM5 chip, you will have to buy a new motherboard and new DDR5 ram. Essentially, you will have to disassemble and reassemble the entire PC to upgrade those parts.

However, the good news is, if you decide to go with this chip and AM4, then you can still build a strong PC.

This is true but to the average user, am4 can and will last a long time.

Besides the bleeding edge, cpus have plateaued to some extent. Sure the new 3Ds are insane but to the average user still on 1080p or 1440p it's not a must have for a good experience.

That said, this 5700x could easily last your 3-4 years or more depending on your needs.
