I got Pixel6a a year ago in a similar deal from Mint. Even though Mint claimed that phone is locked, I tried inserting a sim from an INTL carrier and it worked. When I called Mint after 12 months then they told me that Google phones are not locked so there is no need to unlock.
I am not sure about 7pro but mine 6a was unlocked from the day I received.

Ported my number to Google Voice many years ago, been using Mint most of those years as a "new customer" by getting a new number each time and setting GV to forward calls to the new number each time (a few quick taps in the GV app does it). This time I'll have to get my own number somewhere else to port in ($3 by setting up a new Google account & porting that out is my most likely path), but everything else is the same.

I look like a new account to Mint each time by using Gmail's "plus sign" feature whereby you insert some random text preceded by a plus sign right before the @ in your email address and that extra stuff looks like a different address to Mint, but Gmail ignores it. For example:

[email protected]

Looks unique to Mint, but still gets processed to the [email protected] address by Google. I often use the company and date for the random text to ensure it's unique, so I'd have:

[email protected]

Last year during the big Mint sale I got this phone and ported our numbers over. I'm a fan of the phone (no fingerprint issues) and Mint's pricing, but beware there are known MMS issues the Pixel 7 Pro on Mint that are not fixed after over a year.

Texting via group texts sometimes doesn't go through (or come through) and sending pictures via text just don't work. After troubleshooting for a year with support and reddit forums, there still isn't a fix. It got better after switching the APN and found one that works OK, but it's never consistent.

Just a warning to anyone considering the switch.

B6G6 – Terms & Conditions

Limited time offer. New customers only. Port-in required. "6 months free" applied as a 50% discount on any 12-month plan at checkout. Requires purchase of eligible device and 12-month data plan.

If someone already has a Mint mobile line, are they still a "new customer"? Would think they would have worded it "new lines only" if someone already on Mint would be eligible for a second line with this deal.

Would it be possible later to use this mint plan on another phone/under an existing mint number? say get a physical sim and use it on another (unlocked) phone while keeping the pixel in a drawer in drawers or for internet only?

i am an international student and I plan to arrive to us in january. I currently do not have a number to port in to mint mobile.
Can someone please let me know if porting in is a requirement for the additional free 6 months or is it a requirement to buy the phone.

Can i buy the phone now and have it shipped to a friend in the us.
Porting is required but not sure it is enforced.

yes, I got in on the deal 5 weeks ago (for more money). Using that phone with existing mint sim/service, and activated the plan by porting in from tracfone, and have that sim in an unlocked oneplus 6.

The physical sim from the bundle never touched the phone from the bundle, and everything working

DISREGARD: Answered while I was posting this question.

Great price but the phone is locked. Anyone know if it's unlocked after completing the included 12 months?

I don't see any reason for it not to work.

This is so tempting! If I haven't already purchased the Red Pocket 5G annual plan, I would for sure jump on this one. I am debating whether it is worth it to pay $189 plus taxes to buy a locked Pixel 7 Pro. So I can rock two phones at a time?

Same situation here. The second part of plan A is where I have my doubts.

Plan B is a safer bet.

The big reason I'm still hesitating... I still have a Pxel 3, Before I sold my Pixel 7 Pro, I had to manually transfer photos and videos back to Pixel 3 to get backed up to Google Photos, which offers lifetime unlimited storage. It's a massive pain since they take a LONG time to transfer, and a PIA even if I can access a computer. And basically means no backup during travels. Really don't look forward to going back to that.
Tell me if this is crazy. Maybe it can work.
I get Pixel 7 with physical SIM. Activate it & new phone. Put the SIM in my Pixel 3 and keep using that. Use Pixel 7 only on special occasions when I need top camera gear.
I feel like Pixel 9 will be out in the wild for months though and I'll still be locked into this setup. Which would royally suck. Or maybe repeat this trick? Then I'll have 3 phones at once... ARGH
Pixel 3 unlimited full quality backups ended a year ago. Only the OG pixel 1 should have unlimited full quality backups now. I'm not sure unlimited storage saver backups are worth skipping on the deal or going through that hassle.
