I got Pixel6a a year ago in a similar deal from Mint. Even though Mint claimed that phone is locked, I tried inserting a sim from an INTL carrier and it worked. When I called Mint after 12 months then they told me that Google phones are not locked so there is no need to unlock.
I am not sure about 7pro but mine 6a was unlocked from the day I received.
Ported my number to Google Voice many years ago, been using Mint most of those years as a "new customer" by getting a new number each time and setting GV to forward calls to the new number each time (a few quick taps in the GV app does it). This time I'll have to get my own number somewhere else to port in ($3 by setting up a new Google account & porting that out is my most likely path), but everything else is the same.

I look like a new account to Mint each time by using Gmail's "plus sign" feature whereby you insert some random text preceded by a plus sign right before the @ in your email address and that extra stuff looks like a different address to Mint, but Gmail ignores it. For example:

[email protected]

Looks unique to Mint, but still gets processed to the [email protected] address by Google. I often use the company and date for the random text to ensure it's unique, so I'd have:

[email protected]
Last year during the big Mint sale I got this phone and ported our numbers over. I'm a fan of the phone (no fingerprint issues) and Mint's pricing, but beware there are known MMS issues the Pixel 7 Pro on Mint that are not fixed after over a year.

Texting via group texts sometimes doesn't go through (or come through) and sending pictures via text just don't work. After troubleshooting for a year with support and reddit forums, there still isn't a fix. It got better after switching the APN and found one that works OK, but it's never consistent.

Just a warning to anyone considering the switch.

how can they do this
They think people will stay with them. They have to be losing money on this in the first year.

I got the Pixel 6a deal from mint in 2022 and the phone actually came unlocked even though the product listing said it was locked. iirc most SD users reported their phone was unlocked. Maybe we will get lucky again.

Why didn't they ask what number i want to Port when checking out? When do they confirm you ported the number to them?

Some people confirmed based on previous Pixel 7 Pro purchased from Mint Mobile last few months this is locked.

Will it still be able to get unlocked since it's never been activated?
That's a good question

If it's Metro, you had to get that specific SIM in there to get the clock ticking on the unlock process

Here, I don't know. In theory, sticking any Mint SIM in there for 12 months should do the trick. To satisfy the legal requirement FCC has IIRC

I've got Mint service already and am hoping to make use of this phone and transfer current Mint number out to Tracphone and then port it back to Mint with new SIM I get. So the question should be moot for me. Though am also considering just selling the new SIM and using the phone with current Mint SIM.

I'm sure there'll be many DPs on it soon enough

Lady and gentlemen, hopefully they honor the deal, but don't be surprised your order might get cancelled. Some people got cancelled on the $400 deal
That thread has 4 people claiming their order was cancelled (one of them was using financing so probably a credit issue), and Mint CS actually responded to all of them saying to contact them. Probably just a loss leader type deal to generate subscribers.
If it does get cancelled, Amazon's going to have a LOT of returned phone cases 🤣

I don't know if they do! It's only when activating the service. If you don't port in number, get only 6 months. If you do, you get 12. Phone should work with any Mint SIM

I just ordered a Caseology one. I noticed most now have "frequently returned item" underneath. You know what that means. Jeff's making his list...he's checking it twice
