I got Pixel6a a year ago in a similar deal from Mint. Even though Mint claimed that phone is locked, I tried inserting a sim from an INTL carrier and it worked. When I called Mint after 12 months then they told me that Google phones are not locked so there is no need to unlock.
I am not sure about 7pro but mine 6a was unlocked from the day I received.
Ported my number to Google Voice many years ago, been using Mint most of those years as a "new customer" by getting a new number each time and setting GV to forward calls to the new number each time (a few quick taps in the GV app does it). This time I'll have to get my own number somewhere else to port in ($3 by setting up a new Google account & porting that out is my most likely path), but everything else is the same.

I look like a new account to Mint each time by using Gmail's "plus sign" feature whereby you insert some random text preceded by a plus sign right before the @ in your email address and that extra stuff looks like a different address to Mint, but Gmail ignores it. For example:

[email protected]

Looks unique to Mint, but still gets processed to the [email protected] address by Google. I often use the company and date for the random text to ensure it's unique, so I'd have:

[email protected]
Last year during the big Mint sale I got this phone and ported our numbers over. I'm a fan of the phone (no fingerprint issues) and Mint's pricing, but beware there are known MMS issues the Pixel 7 Pro on Mint that are not fixed after over a year.

Texting via group texts sometimes doesn't go through (or come through) and sending pictures via text just don't work. After troubleshooting for a year with support and reddit forums, there still isn't a fix. It got better after switching the APN and found one that works OK, but it's never consistent.

Just a warning to anyone considering the switch.

Temporary unlock on Pixel is really risky (unlike the RSIM unlock that was working in past on iPhones).

One mistake and it locks up again, with factory reset being the only way to try next round. Do this only if it's your secondary phone without anything critical on it.

Also most Work apps won't install with an active VPN app like Netguard.

Anybody know if a new plan will stack on the existing one? Say I have 3 mo to go and if I add a new one (6mo only since I am on Mint already), will I lose remaining 3 mo?

How do you plan on adding the new one? Steps?

Hmm my yearly plan for another carrier just expired the other day too.

Edit: I couldn't pass it up, I'm going to miss the headphone jack and the size of my current pixel 3a though lol.

Yes, you login to their activation site and port your number over. Super easy.
You can apply the plan to any compatable phone, not just the pixel 7. Note that the 7pro is locked and will not unlock unless you activate it. But you could sell the phone and just use the plan or vice versa.
After we activate it on the Pixel 7, can the SIM card be used on another phone that is unlocked?

I am pretty sure you can do that because the phone number is stored on the SIM.

Interested in this too. I don't think you can just use this to top up your existing plan. It can only be activated, either with porting in a number or getting a new Mint assigned number.

The screen being curved is a real bummer

You can either go for a good TPU one or if you want tempered glass, have to go for one that's the Whitestone one or one like it. Tempers it with a glue of some sort

You can also get a case like the Poetic ones that has a built in screen protector that will keep away scratches and whatnot. Which are apparently a problem on this phone

The aluminum around back camera housing also scratches easily so some sort of protection there may be a good idea. Also sold with screen protectors

Not yet. I will probably go to Tello which has eSim and pay 9 bucks and port in there. Then move back in to Mint

Is it likely that this will come back in stock any time soon?
