I've always been a PC person, but have lately been wanting to try out an older / used Apple desktop to see what the other side is like if I could find one cheap enough... Anyone have any suggestions as to what sort of vintage of apple device I should be looking at as a cheap play thing to learn on..? Would prefer it to have at least a little bit of software support / updates left to it, but that's not critical...

Willing to pay $200 more for 16gb/512 or even 1tb. End of 2023 and still seeing 8gb of ram and 256gb of space.

I would try to get one with at least an M1 processor. Anything older and inherently cheaper you'll probably be like what's the point

I recently switched from life long PC to Mac and there are a lot of PC things I miss but the M2 Mac Mini has been near perfect for everyday computer use

Macs tend to live forever, but if you get anything that has either m1 or m2 processor, it will be no more than a couple years old as Apple just released the m1 in 2020. Mac minis are great systems because you can hook them up to almost anything. I would strongly suggest getting an Apple mouse to go with it. The Apple mice have capabilities that other mice do not have (swiping between Spaces, reverse pinch to enlarge photos, etc.). I personally feel they are worth the cost.

Spent a few hours last week showing a new Apple user some of the things on his MBP. He was blown away. LOL

I bought this a few weeks back to replace my dying 2015 MBP. Stacked this price with Discover's 5% CB for Amazon and Discover also had a $10 off Amazon offer, YMMV.
Overall performance is great for a daily driver. I simply use it for everyday tasks, like YouTube, trading stocks, browsing the web, and streaming music while I work. It runs pretty great.
Unlike previous models, you can use both usb-c ports for a dual monitor set up. I went with the one HDMI and one USB-C dual monitor set up. I have a triple monitor desk set-up, so I switch between my Mini and my work PC in the evenings and weekends. The second usb-c port connects to my docking station for extra ports and storage.
Size wise, it's about the same size as my work-issued Dell Optiplex micro PC. Weight wise, idk it sits on my desk looking cool.
Bluetooth issues have been fixed in the 2023 model apparently. This easily connects to my MX Master 3 keyboard and mouse, which is great again for switching between work and personal.
I use it literally everyday, I can't complain given its low price and the fact that I have a desktop set up.

From my brief research the mac mini 2018 is still supported. Make sure to get the 8gb ram with ssd version though.
