Overall this saber is probably a pretty good deal for what you're getting. It's all metal and has the removable blade which makes it SOOOO much better than the standard Force FX lightsabers that didn't feature removable blades (with limited exceptions). Don't expect to be able to really duel or go to town with this as you would damage it. Think of it more as a display prop that also has light and sound effects for swinging around. If you want to just bash lightsabers with someone, buy a cheap $100 one and don't ruin this.
The electronics in these are generally passable, but nowhere near what you can get for significantly more money in the world of unlicensed lightsabers.

If we're talking about pre-built stuff, you have a huge range of stuff from the cheap end of Chinese companies that entered the market in recent years to high end American companies.
One of the companies that advertises everywhere is Ultrasabers; avoid them at all costs. They are so overpriced and inferior to almost any other company. I can't think of a worse company, but because they advertise more than anyone, they sell a TON.
If you want a good entry saber, LGT or LXQ might be good options. You can either choose new designs or a lightsaber from the films.
Lightsabers either have super powerful LEDs in the bottom that shoots up the blade or they have a string of LEDs in the tube itself. The string of LEDs ends up brighter and can do effects like scrolling up when turned on, but you'll find they are more expensive.
One thing that the better lightsabers can do is generate realistic sound effects as you swing. This is known as "Smoothswing." When you swing a Force FX lightsaber, it just plays one of a handful of different sound effects like toys have since the 1980s. A smoothswing saber will generate the effect based on how fast you swing it. You can find videos online that demonstrate the benefits of smoothswing and it's huge.
These are good invesments too. Years ago Target was selling the Anakin ones for $50. Sold them years later (when Star Wars franchise got resurrected LOL) for $350-$400 each
