Just an FYI for people who care about this sort of thing, Nova was purchased by a data analytics company about a year ago IIRC.

It seems like a lot of people aren't aware so I figured it's worth mentioning.
just block api2.branch.io in your DNS
To find a link now, I'd have to do the same thing you would do, which is google "nova launcher sold data analytics" or something similar.

I love Nova and don't regret paying full price for Prime years ago. I put the free version on my parents' phones, so that every new phone they get looks pretty much the same to them, since they mainly only see/mess with the home screen.

My mom has the bad habit of dramatically swiping everything, instead of tapping, and used to end up with a hot mess of a home screen, with half of her apps either removed or accidentally uninstalled, if not just moved all over the place. Being able to lock down the home screen (icons & widgets) with Nova has prevented sooo many "my Facebook is gone and I didn't do it" phone calls, that Nova is worth it, even if I would have had to pay for that feature. Being able to see the same home screen across manufacturers/models really helps those who have trouble with tech adjust to getting new phones.

And it cuts down on new phone setup time, for me.

That's what I should do. Nova would make sense maybe 5+ years ago but I would think brands have caught up by now with their features no? I like that you can sync Nova settings to the next device so it stays exactly the same. Is Samsung/Google able to do that?
My favorite feature is the settings backup, too. Makes setting up new phones so much easier.

1 yr old plus thread that looks like one knee-jerk reaction being parroted by everyone. But hey it's Reddit.

Does Nova Launcher collect any personal data?

No. Nova collects crash reporting and analytics, but nothing personally identifiable. You can read our full Privacy Policy here.

But feel free to go ahead and continue to use Google, the biggest data harvester in the world lol.

With pure Android on a Pixel phone, are these custom launchers still beneficial? I remember using Nova back in the day on my Samsung phones and it was great. But mostly that was to get it closer to the pure Android feel... Are there other features that would make it worth it on a Pixel?
I feel like Pixel Launcher on my P8Pro is nowhere near as customizable as Nova is.

Personally I've really liked Niagara launcher. I pay 5 bucks a year but price has gone up. Tempted to try Nova but very used to the extreme simplicity of Niagara. Reminds me of the Nokia Lumia Windows phone OS and Zune too. RIP

Sounds like you work for the company so we get your angle.

Whether you understand it or not, the fact that a launcher app which requires a significant amount of permissions to operate is now owned by a data analytics company should, at the very least, be expected to raise alarms in the minds of many. Any posted privacy policy does not alleviate those concerns by privacy conscious folks any more than a graphic of a lock on a webpage checkout alleviate security concerns for those who truly understand security.

Lol 'work for the company.' Expected response from the 'privacy conscious' aka paranoid crowd.

Where's the concern over Google's policies? And since when is permission approval considered nefarious for what it's designed purpose is other than the minds of the uneducated? If you have to raise concerns you better be prepared to level the same accusations against Google instead of turning a blind eye.

Favorite launcher, been using pirated version for years and years. Since I don't sign into the genuine Google Play store (I use MicroG) I never paid for it and couldn't pay with that method. Well today I signed into Play via my Ereader just to pay for it and clear my conscious a little. 😇

It has the most customizations of any launcher. For close family like grandma, I can custom tailor it to their special needs, restrict/hide settings and apps they don't need and then lock the launcher layout so they don't accidenly mess everything up. NovaLauncher widgets have some pretty advanced functions. Definitely fiddle with them if you haven't.

The lock feature is what makes this great. Nothing worse than looking at someone's phone and seeing it a complete mess.

I stopped using NOVA earlier this year due lot of issues on pixel phones( 3xl and pixel 7 as well). Stock pixel launcher is worst but leaves me no choice. Both NOVA and Android team blaming each other for compatibility issues.

OnePlus' OxygenOS is the best Android OS

1) What does that have to do with launchers?
2) That's totally subjective. I have 5 oneplus devices and none of them still have oxygenos on them. In fact I'm slowly transitioning all of them over to CRDroid. https://crdroid.net/

Some brands have gone very close to stock Android but you never know what an update will bring.

Lenovo use to be very stock but I here there are major issues with their new tablets not allowing users to remove the task bar that goes across the entire laptop.

I just got a iplay 50 mini pro and it is bone stock Android 13 and I love it.

I purchased Novo Launcher back in 2017 when XDA Amazon Tool Bar was working... but as you stated, if you do your research... and get a stock android tablet... Novo Launcher is a waste.

I just hate bloatware and feel putting a launcher on top of your launcher is just too much bloat.

I used it a few times a year ago but didn't see any benefit. Is there a reason I should use it on S23 Ultra?
What are the pros and cons compared to current, fairly updated launchers? Such as Samsung's or Pixel's. I feel I will miss a setting if I use it
