Its a deal because the batteries are like 500$ msrp. The mower is plagued with battery overheating problems

I bought one, used it once, and immediately returned it. I have never a worse experience with a tool in my life. Like you I own nearly every tool in the Dewalt 20V lineup but absolutely hated this thing.

Buy it. Sell the mower for $100-200 before you leave and keep the batteries (or sell them and make a profit).
The batteries exceed the limit for taking on a plane, and I don't really want to try to sell a mower out of the back of a rental car in a hotel parking lot. That just screams I stole this mower.

How are you guys finding out the batteries weren't in the box? Did you buy it, open it, then find out?

There's one I'm about to pick up, but haven't yet paid for it. Still waiting for it to be picked fro lm top stock.

I just got one, the Batteries were NOT in the box because they're so frequently stolen, Home Depot removes them to keep them safe. It took a while for the manager to track them down.

Lesson is: Check for the batteries before you leave the store, but it's very likely they're in the back somewhere safe.

Went to 4 stores this morning. Just missed out at 2 to a fellow slickdealer. The next 2 stores were out even though inventory said they had 4. Final and furthest store had 4 units. Went to buy them and 2 of them had the batteries stolen from them. Got the display model and one unopened unit. That takes care of the Portland area.

Make sure to open both boxes: unit and battery. If the batteries are gone, have them swap the batteries from the display model into the retail box and check out. My store would not replace the missing ones they just rma'd them back to home base.
That's great. Just picked up the last one at clackamas HD, the batteries were in the box which was great. The associate was awesome and helped get it down and was surprised these were so marked down.

No luck here. They're $550 in Pierce County WA.
Almost made the same mistake, the $550 unit is a different SKU. Thought I'd check before I left and the $249 units were outside up high on pallets. May want to try again (or call first with the right barcode to lookup) but they're probably gone by now!

Home Depot shows 730.00 dollars at my location. Out of stock.
It shows $730 in the app or on the website, but when you go to the store they're marked down to $249 on their internal system

You might be right. Now that I'm paying more attention, it is a different SKU. I looked all around and didn't see any others at the store. Either way, they're definitely gone now.

Lithium batteries + mower with long history of problems with batteries ....

Be careful your garage doesn't burn down (and your house, if it's attached to your garage).

I work at HD part time for my second job. This was a store-localized clearance discount. Some did it, some did not, it was Store Manager discretion. If you want mower discounts, typically what I've seen the past 4 years is February-Early March they have to cleasr out old models to make room for new inventory. I've learned quite a bit about the "when" and "why" for clearance at HD... mostly out of spite because employees get no discount or company benefit for working there.

It's a poorly designed mower unfortunately but at this price it might not be as bad, suburban lawns only though you won't get through anything substantial. I sold mine and went with ego's 56v series.
Not to crap on this deal, but EGO mowers, etc. are beasts.

I purchased this mower at $829 and I haven't experienced overheating. It's a great deal imo but it doesn't like wet or grass that's 3 weeks from it's last cut
