Hersheys ruined the dairy milk for me, wish these were the ones made in Europe. HUGE difference in taste and quality.
We get the chocolate bars from Aldi for $1.39 each every day normal price for 5.29 oz. I believe its German chocolate. The brand is Choceur and its streets ahead of anything American. Heres a link. We usually get the almond one

Actually butyric acid is in lots of things including cheese and milk. Lots of flavor compounds in cheese are also in stomach acid. Hershey adds butyric acid not as a preservative but to "enhance" the milky flavor, and probably to cover up that they use not-that-much of not-that-great cocoa. Once you know it's there it's hard to miss.

Anything with enough sugar (and low water content) doesn't need a preservative. Microbes can't grow where there's too much sugar, sugar is hydrophilic and will suck the moisture out of any microbes, killing them. Jams, jellies, candies, etc are all shelf stable unless they get wet.

As Americans, we grew up with it so we are used to it.

But to people in other countries, it's definitely gross!

I like Hershey's chocolate. But I also can't unsmell it now that I know it's there.

I'm from Australia where we have proper Cadbury, nearly as good as the UK. I live in the U.S. now and hate all of the chocolate (candy) bars you can grab at the supermarket. Hershey's is trash and 95% of Americans don't know it. Their minds would be blown if a regular chocolate bars (candy bar) on the shelf was of the same standard as the UK, Europe and Australia.

My wife hate that I rant about how crap the chocolate is here, but she agrees with me (she's American).

I was wondering why that dark chocolate with almonds tastes like absolute heaven. Gonna grab some more for my stepdad to try. Such a steal at the price too.

Also didn't even realize Hershey owned Cadbury. Never had Cadbury actually, but the label reminded me of the Choceur stuff at Aldi.
Hershey doesn't own Cadbury, they actually just produce Cadbury products under license for sale in the USA. Cadbury is still its own company in the UK, where they produce the real stuff. These ones are okay, but definitely not the same product available in the UK and Europe for sure.

I love Cadbury Dairy Milk. As others have said, this isn't real, original Cadbury Dairy Milk. Originally tried the real thing in England and now I just can't acquire a taste for the Hershey version. They also used to make the Cadbury eggs with real Dairy Milk. Now they make the ones for the US market in North America. They don't taste the same.

I still grab real Dairy Milk at the Duty Free when I travel, and occasionally order the real Cadbury eggs.

It's a shame they messed with the recipe for the American market. They COULD make it to the original recipe here. They just don't.

Damn, was just on cruise ship and did not look to see if they had real Cadbury, but it was probably overpriced anyway - I will stick with Aldi for now.

I don't get it why they don't use the original recipe either. Its basically Hersheys with a Cadbury label. It must be a cost saving thing but its idiotic. I am thinking also with current modernization of global shipping if Cadbury will end the license ever.
