Technically you only need to cool the controller, which is in contact with the heat pipe. the NAND (both top and bottom) actually likes to stay warm to have better performance. Typically, double sided SSD only has NAND chips on the back, and not cooling the back NAND is actually good for them.
You do realize the SSD goes in-between the heatsink and bottom plate, right?
gee i dunno, i actually bought and use the item... look at the bottom plate, its held on with screws, theres very little contact besides that, it also tends to bow out when screws are tightened leading to an even bigger air gap and less contact.

I have two of these. The biggest issue is most NVMe connectors are either very close to or underneath PCIe connectors on the motherboard. If you have any video card that is 2 slots or greater (i.e. all of them), it won't fit.
I have a WB Black gen 3 that runs hot. Slapped one of these on it to get rid of that bottleneck i was getting then transcoding video. way overkill, but at least i didn't have to guess at it working.
