Bought this about 10 years ago. It has started to tear a bit and one of the poles is broken. Overall a solid tent. The rainfly is not the easiest to put on, but the tent itself goes up fast. I think I paid $120 for it 10 years ago and that was on sale. The retail of $219 is inflated though.

16ft length seems massive. Will this even fit into typical sized tent pads at national parks like Joshua Tree, Yosemite, Guadalupe, etc?

Is it free standing, or does it require staking?

Agreed. Always cut the number in half for actual capacity with a normal sized sleeping bag and room for some basic gear. At 16' though this one seems pretty roomy for 8 people classification.

I would argue all tents require staking just in case bad weather pops up. But yeah this one does need 6 stakes and 2 guylines to maintain its shape.

This is a very long thin tent. I used to have it but prefer ones a bit more square. It will fit on most tent pads, possibly a bit off into the brush.

Had this tent and it is stuffy inside during the day. Not ideal if trying to get away from having too much sun like the south western states. A Queen bed on each side gives a lot of room in the middle for a small table and chairs.

I have been happy with this tent. It used to get posted at $99, but I've not seen it below. Reviews mention low ventilation, which seems true, but it was fine for me when opening the windows that are there. It performs well in the rain with a tarp below (and properly folded under). It may go over the tent pad on one side, but that hasn't been a problem for me. It should be staked. I usually skipped the guy lines.

Nice that the only thing that matters is the interior layout, and there were zero photos showing the only thing that matters.

Seems expensive anyhow, and I dislike all the required guylines.

An 8-person should at least have a zippered partition.

Two of us bought this last year. The two poles on the sides ended up cracking. Our friends tent poles ended up breaking on their second trip.

The size was great and setup was easy but the poles just won't last.
