I put these on 5 windows in our main living space. I primarily control via BLE on Home Assistant but their app with the mini hub works fine most of the time as well.

Game changer getting blinds automated. We open them daily now instead of just a few times a year in the past. The solar panels seem to work but haven't given me much charging the last two months. One of the 5 the solar panel has stayed not detected, though, so potentially a warranty issue.

Overall I definitely recommend. The first window will take 15 minutes or so, then the rest you do will be 5-ish minutes each.

It's not laziness, it's convenience, and efficiency.

Do you walk or use a transportation?
Do you use the paper map or GPS navigation?
Do you wash dishes by hand or use dishwasher?
Do you cook food on fire or oven?
Do you chose stairs or elevator?
Do you use online search engine or library books?

I would probably control primarily through HA, is there any benefit of gen2 over gen1 hub?

Short answer: no. No hub required at all if you're going to run via Bluetooth / Bluetooth Proxy.

I installed the cheaper tiny hub just to make their remote work with scenes for my wife when she didn't feel like using my home assistant interfaces or the app, but otherwise I have no use for the hub at all. Home Assistant is not linked to switchbot cloud, I'm full local.

You'd leave your blinds closed for months at a time because it required twisting the stick?
I have automated interior lighting with fun scenes. Most of my windows are behind furniture so it required climbing up a bit to even reach the stick. So... Yeah. 🤷 Was never important to me until having kids.

Gen2 has (or will have) matter support.

I have these from when they launched on Kick Starter. They work great and their customer service was awesome when one failed. It was replaced right away. Since then not one problem. The solar panels work well as I've never once had to charge them since the original charge when installed and that's over one year now. The app is easy to use and the scenes work perfectly. Some complain they make noise. Well they do, they're little motors, not that loud at all. I can't imagine ever going back to manual blinds. Ours are in a difficult place to reach. These have been just what we needed for a fair price.

Hey Google, close the blinds. Done.

I wish there was an affordable way to make them go up, not just tilt

Try disconnecting the solar panel, resetting the SwitchBot, then restarting. Worked for me when I had the same thing happen when I was installing them.. If that doesn't work try reaching out to them through the app. They respond quickly.

Bought 6 of these, 2 of which don't close all the way through automation despite re collaboration multi times. SwitchBot customer service is the worst and Hub 2 supports matter, but not ready quite yet. Would I buy these Blind tilts again for my other windows? Nope!
